Tax is higher in CA vs Texas, but most of the difference (pre Iran supply cut) is due to ca epa mandates that require detergents and that “special” gas can only be refined by a few oil companies (that coincidentally are also the largest lobbyists in CA), but that was not the point. The point was, we are again in another forever war that takes our money and gives it straight to MIC.

Gas in CA is up over $2 per gallon now. Californians consume over 1B gallons each month. The few oil companies that provide CA of gasoline don’t have to spend a penny more for production. 🤬

That doesn’t account for the difference (40c vs 70c per gallon). CA gas has "special" EPA mandated detergents in their gas that only a few “select” refiners can make. So the real difference in price is pocketed by the oil companies (CA uses 1B gallons per month). Needles to say that these oil companies are the biggest financial donors to politics.

I’m on a road trip in the Florida Keys, where gas is only $2.89 a gallon. I’m literally on an island 115 miles off the coast of Florida, and gas is 50% cheaper than in California ($6–$7 per gallon) The price difference is due to taxes and fees, which pay the salaries of our elected officials. These are the same people who created California’s affordability crisis. It’s no wonder why so many people are fleeing the state…
