🧵 Съдебната реформа е приоритет №1 за новия парламент. Но има и приоритет №2, който засяга всеки един от нас: Изборният кодекс. Нишка за машинния вот и защо трябва да го възстановим 👇 1/8

Radew’s win yesterday is unseen in Bulgarian political history. It seems in the above situation, many Bulgarians decided vote for him because he seems like the best option for a stable force that can end the vicious model painted above. Painting him as pro-Russian is a lazy take that I have listened to for many years from his political opponents in Bulgaria. He has been critical to some EU policies, but so have been Sanchez and Macron lately? He has criticized the sanctions against Russia as ineffective, a view that is definitely not in the minority anymore. He has also criticized European energy policies as a factor contributing to the current de-industrialization and loss of competitiveness for European firms – is this not what parts of the Draghi Report says as well? In power, during the caretaker governments, we never imposed any embargo on arms sales to Ukraine, which was crucial to its defence. This is however not the same as being in favour of expanding arms deliveries and financial help with no end in sight. His are not radical anti-European positions, but quite sensible views for many people, and as it seems especially so for a predominant part of Bulgarians, which is what matters in the end.

I read a lot of lazy, half-baked takeaways on the Bulgarian elections today. Rumen Radew is a pragmatic centrist politician and I have worked for him in numerous caretaker governments. We had extremely good cooperation with the institutions of the European Union, received some serious funding under the Bulgarian RRF for the delivery of important milestones, including in the area of justice and anti-corruption, we welcomed President von der Leyen in Sofia for the opening of the ICGB gas connection with Greece, continued the preparation on the forthcoming euro adoption and entering the OECD, among many other things.

I admire your optimism, but let’s be real. Radev previously called Crimea "russian," fought tooth and nail against sending ammunition to Ukraine (despite it being a massive moneymaker for Bulgaria), and kept pushing to get back on the russian gas needle. Now that he’s Prime Minister with majority, "Bulgaria is too poor" is just a convenient excuse for active sabotage. Today, he’s only against funding aid; tomorrow, he’ll be blocking ammo sales and vetoing sanctions against russia. He’s going to be a headache for the EU and Ukraine, no doubt about it.

"The Bulgarian Orbán" has won the elections. Give me one argument for wanting to live as a Russian slave state a second time. The "Progressive Bulgaria" party of the pro-Russian former president and bootlicker Rumen Radev garnered 44.59% of the vote in the parliamentary elections, securing an absolute majority, as shown by the results of the 100% ballot count. ▪️2nd place: The pro-Western bloc "GERB-SDS" – 13.3%. ▪️3rd place: The pro-Western bloc "We Continue the Changes – Democratic Bulgaria" – 12.6% of the vote. Also entering the Bulgarian parliament were the liberal party "DPS" ("Movement for Rights and Freedoms") with 7.1% and the pro-Russian party "Rebirth," which received 4.2% of the vote.

@c_kennaugh @jurgen_nauditt But Bulgaria won't leave the EU or NATO, of course; they'll just keep leeching off EU funds while screaming about "sovereignty" and sabotaging every collective decision from within. Orban is dead. Long live Orban.

Tunnels are so underrated
Aakash Gupta@aakashgupta

The real story is the $25 million per mile price tag they’re betting on. Nashville’s own 2018 light rail plan priced at $200 million per mile. New York’s East Side Access cost $3.5 billion per mile. The LA Metro expansion is running $1 billion per mile. The Boring Company says it can build 13 miles of twin tunnels through Nashville for $240-300 million total. That’s a 95% cost reduction from the industry average. If the number holds, it rewrites the economics of every transit project in America. If it doesn’t, a few hundred million in private capital evaporates and taxpayers lose nothing. That risk asymmetry explains why Tennessee said yes when LA, Chicago, Baltimore, and DC all said no. The engineering gamble is wild. 12-foot diameter tunnels instead of 28-foot. Fully electric Prufrock machines that mine continuously instead of stopping every 5 feet to install lining segments. Zero people in the tunnel during operations. A machine that “porpoises” into the ground from a truck instead of requiring million-dollar launch pits and cranes. Every one of those innovations has worked in Las Vegas sand. None have been tested in karst limestone, the geology that creates sinkholes, caves, and underground streams. Their own CEO said at the unveiling that Nashville would not be their choice if they were optimizing for easiest places to tunnel. This tells you everything about what The Boring Company is actually trying to prove. Nashville is where the thesis meets the hardest possible geology. 50 inches of annual rainfall versus Vegas’s 4. Rock that creates underground caves and streams. They just signed a construction contract in Dubai too, meaning they need Nashville to work before the next project launches. The internal memo from the governor’s office estimates 1 mile per month. The Boring Company’s website claims 1 mile per week. That 4x gap between political planning and corporate marketing will determine whether this finishes in 2027 or 2030. Week 7, when Prufrock-MB2 arrives, is when this gets real. Two machines boring simultaneously through Tennessee limestone will answer the question the entire tunneling industry has been debating for a decade: whether a startup can actually outrun the physics that made infrastructure the slowest-moving sector in construction.
