Primary position – where you receive 80–90% of your defensive development and game reps. Secondary position – a position you can play if needed and continue to develop. Emergency position – a spot you can fill for the team but are not actively training to be recruited for.

At 18U priority is helping you get recruited. That means becoming outstanding at your primary position. Don’t try to be average at five positions. Be outstanding at one, dependable at a second, and capable at a third. That’s what gets attention and gives coaches your identity

Team Standards are the level of behavior and performance you expect every day. Compete on every pitch. Play with intensity and energy. Be coachable accept constructive criticism. Put the team before yourself. Give max effort whether starting or on the bench. Be accountable

My JUCO coach used to say: “See ball. Hit ball.” Simple. Most hitters think they have a TIMING problem Often, they have a Movement problem When Movement flow is off, vision becomes unstable When vision becomes unstable, timing suffers Better Movement = Vision = Timing! 🧵

Hitting coaches: Your job is to help them figure it out for themselves… Ask THEM questions Get THEM to think for themselves Have THEM tell you how they feel Offer advice, give them knowledge, teach them what you know, but ultimately, teach them how to teach themselves. ** I learned one day early on in my coaching career that when a hitter relied on me to tell them what was wrong every swing, I was failing them miserably. It totally shifted and transformed THEIR ability when I started making them tell me what they felt was wrong, and tell me how they were gonna fix it. (And it often wasn’t swing related). That’s how THEY learn to hit. #BaseballTruth
