@i_Dunadan There was no hiding on her part. Raised this multiple times with editor and she made excuses for her, and others who felt embolden to come out in the open post George Floyd and 501c3. Your “journalism” class reflects this current generation that has destroyed The Trib.

Since the leftist rag known as the Salt Lake Tribune is trending, I figured I'd drop this tidbit. SLT employee Kelly Cannon was the guest speaker in a September 2021 journalism class at the University of Utah. As the Trib's web manager, her topic was search engine optimization 1/

Tribune tried so hard in 2020 to recreate George Floyd upheaval in Utah. We ran 30+ straight days of protest cover stories. Now, once again, hoping to import Minnesota protest to Utah. Same folks, different signs.
The Salt Lake Tribune@sltrib

Letter: Minnesota showed the nation what it looks like when ordinary people refuse to let authoritarianism take hold. If Utah were confronted with the same test, what would we do? sltrib.com/opinion/letter…

@NormieUtah In fairness, I personally hired Bryan. 4-5 Trib staff threatened to quit if I did so. They never followed through. Bryan’s first article with Trib had more views than our combined political team, plus columnist, plus Bags (I think 7 in total) for entire week.

@NormieUtah We had a window (surplus) in 2020 - and gave leadership a mandate to reorg, and hire the best journalist (who knew accounting, finance, technology, and science) in the country. Turns out, that doesn’t exist. Squandered all surplus on Marxist activist post George Floyd.

“….their comrades in city hall….” 😱 We could have used this Paul Huntsman as the owner of The Salt Lake Tribune. We need local, honest, and ethical local news media. Step #1 would have been to fire Pyle, Bagley and Gerhke.

Great questions, and analysis from Fareed. State government is another matter, but SLC is 100% blue city, and too often, journalist blame all the city’s problems on the state legislature, and rarely hold their comrades in city hall accountable.

Fareed Zakaria@FareedZakaria

Blue cities are out of control, promising more, spending more, delivering less and pushing off fiscal problems to some future day. Democrats in city halls should stop governing as if the goal is to announce new entitlements, and instead make government work. My take:

This isn’t about exiting. Too often, when outside capital invest in Utah companies, they get fleeced, and disaster follows. We are great at marketing our twaddle - but deep within our balance sheet lies the truth. Financial Times and WSJ recent take down of Onset was brutal.

And this is your excuse? Wow.
Daniel McCay@danmccay

Dear Paul (@pchuntsman), Utah had a great Fortune 500 company until a family moved their company to Texas in 2004. Want to guess which company that was? Hint: this is their logo with a few letters missing.

Bezos finally found out the truth in legacy newsrooms. Accountability, innovation, growth, and profitability are an anathema to their cultures. Starts with reforming journalism schools, and radically different platforms.
NormieUtah@NormieUtah

@pchuntsman Personnel is policy (and output). You needed to replace EVERYONE. Keeping Pyle, Bagley, Gerhke, Schott, all the garbage editors, woke little interns was THE critical mistake. It really could have become a valuable, community, non-profit asset.

@NormieUtah 2020, I shifted business model from single member LLC to 501C3, established a board, which I chaired and had 1 vote. Hired new leadership team to hold newsroom accountable. Never happened. Had no interest going through another restructure.

If this is the real Paul Huntsman’s account, his re-engagement is X is mind blowing…😱😱😱 1. He absolutely obliterates The Salt Lake Tribune newsroom and reporters for being the total left wing partisan garbage they are. 2. BUT THIS WAS HIS COMPANY! He could have cleaned house and fired every one of these anti-American scumballs. He did not.🤔 So IDK.🍿 Based on the 5 yr account timeline I think this might really be him.🤷‍♂️
Paul Huntsman@pchuntsman

Wrong. Took a $3 million loss, and left with +$1m surplus. Couldn’t fix the neo-Marxist culture of the newsrooom, and paper will become a niche eastside newsletter for urban whites to spew their anger.

@religiongal @julie_jag @SpencerCox Gov Cox is right. Do journalist even know what sport these athletes are competing, or do they want to make it all about Trump? Leave the TDS to Bagley.

@jemelehill First one to convert legacy salt lake tribune to a public charity and it was a disaster! Raised lots of money, but the newsroom shifted from left-leaning, to Marxism, and whatever accountability they had went to zero. Now just a fringe publication with allegiance to big labor.

Respectfully Darren, you’ve lost the plot. Journalism was never supposed to be a for-profit business, but a public good. And when it shifted to a purely capitalistic model, it compromised the very integrity it was built on. Surely you’re not naive enough to understand why many see Jeff Bezos gutting the Post as politically motivated — especially in light of his relationship to this administration. He’s deeply compromised. Beyond that, there’s no question that journalism has to adapt to the times — but that adaptation doesn’t have to come at the expense of thoughtful coverage. You meet the audience where they are, but you also give them what they don’t know they need. They need storytelling, depth, context and insight. The audience still responds to those things and that will always be in demand.
Darren Rovell@darrenrovell

The Washington Post isn't cutting the sports section today because Jeffrey Bezos is a ghoul or hates journalism. It's because journalism that doesn't meet the public where they are and where they want to be can't make money. My take on the reality of the future of journalism linkedin.com/posts/darrenro…

@sltrib I “did the right thing” and turned the Tribune into a 501c3 nonprofit. Newsroom culture/partisanship went from bad to ruinous. Always playing the victim card and blaming the wealthy owner. It’s your content - own it! And stop blaming others for your 💩.

@CynicalPublius Can’t like this comment enough. It doomed the Salt Lake Tribune newsroom. Reform starts with J-schools.

The so-called profession of "journalism" doomed itself to extinction when journalism schools started teaching their students that it was more important to advance social justice than report the news. "Journalists" have only themselves to blame.
