As Canada progresses through the competition, more of Canada’s prize money will be taxed in the USA. Almost every game after group stages results in a lower share of tax revenue for Canada. However, if Canada wins the FIFA World Cup 2026, we get the highest tax revenue.

@CDS_GC Tax filers were often worried about scams, and about giving their financial data to 3rd parties. Contrary to @taxpayerDOTcom's post, many filers would actually PREFER a 1st party government-provided filing avenue. Particularly one that makes filing streamlined.

Wrong! I worked on a @CDS_GC team that did research into low-income Canadians' filing habits and sentiments, and we learned that many would _prefer_ a government-provided auto-filing option. short 🧵 on what we learned

@CDS_GC One of our recommendations was to "Eliminate steps wherever possible". In the majority of cases, the Government already has the data they are asking you to type in. Auto-filing is viable and will eliminate a lot of steps!

@franco_nomics Many people want this, and it would also be an optional service. If you don't want to use this new service, nobody will force you. Keep doing it on your own, or work with a tax planner, it's up to you.

BREAKING: Carney plans to give CRA more power with automatic tax filing. Trusting the taxman to do your return is like trusting your dog to protect your burger. CRA acting as both tax filer and tax collector is a serious conflict of interest. Stop the CRA power grab!
