The prompt and courageous decision by President @anuradisanayake to intervene and ensure the safety of the Iranian sailors on 2nd vessel is commendable. It is the duty of a state that respects international law and humanitarian values. I appreciate this decisive step.

Sri Lanka has lost a courageous and principled son with the passing of Mr. Iqbal Athas — a pioneer of independent defence journalism and a fearless voice during one of the darkest chapters of our nation’s history. At a time when silence was safer than truth, Mr. Athas chose integrity over convenience. Through his investigations, he exposed corruption, abuse of power, and the misuse of public resources during the 30-year conflict, serving the nation not with weapons, but with facts. His work reminded us that patriotism is not blind loyalty to authority, but loyalty to the people and to the truth. In a country where accountability has too often been sacrificed, Iqbal Athas stood as a rare example of what ethical journalism should be — brave, independent, and deeply committed to the public interest. #IqbalAthas #FearlessJournalism #SriLanka #Journalism

Personal attacks and online bullying against political leaders—particularly women—only lower the standards of our political culture. Sri Lanka’s challenges will not be solved by gossip, but by serious discussion on governance, economic recovery, and national reform. #PoliticalDecency #FocusOnGovernance

New evidence from the Sri Lanka Association of Meteorologists makes one thing unmistakably clear: credible early warnings on Cyclone Ditwah were issued as far back as 23rd November. For transparency, accountability, and justice for every affected family, an impartial, high-powered Parliamentary Committee must be appointed without delay. Sri Lanka deserves the truth — and the victims deserve nothing less than full accountability. #Ditwah #SriLanka #Accountability #JusticeForVictims #TransparencyMatters #PublicSafety #SLPolitics #Parliament #EarlyWarning #SriLankaMetDept

Public finance of the Republic cannot be placed under the control of a body that is not created by or under the Constitution, nor made answerable to Parliament. Such delegation of financial authority is repugnant to Articles 148 and 150 of the Constitution.” (Supreme Court FR Applications SCFR 209/2005 & connected cases – PTOMS Judgment, July 2005) @anuradisanayake could do better to avoid a possible contempt of court case if he is mindful of the judgment that prevented a body (like Rebuild Sri Lanka ), which is not established under the constitution to handle public funds. #SriLanka #SriLankafloods #PunlicFinance #Accountability

Sri Lanka has lost an estimated $36 billion over the past decade through trade misinvoicing — almost 20% of national trade value disappearing into unverified transactions. (As per @IllicitFlows ) As the new Disaster Fund Management Committee begins its important work, this is a timely reminder: Recovering even a fraction of these illicit financial flows would significantly strengthen our national resilience and disaster preparedness. Let’s ensure financial integrity becomes part of disaster management too. #SriLanka #GoodGovernance #IllicitFlows #DisasterFund #Transparency #Disaster_Management_Committee

Sri Lanka Disaster Management Act (No.13 of 2005) is clear: Sec.16–18 establish the official Fund of the National Council for Disaster Management (NCDM) Sec.4(o) empowers ONLY the NCDM to recommend, receive & manage allocations, grants and donations for disaster relief Sec.18 mandates audited accounts No external committee has legal authority to raise or manage disaster-relief funds outside this framework. #SriLanka #DisasterManagement #Accountability #RuleOfLaw #DitwaCyclone

It appears that certain political groups, having lost the support of Tamil-speaking communities in the recent election, are now attempting to regain that vote by fostering divisions, hostility, and suspicion among ethnic groups. Efforts to provoke incidents that inflame Sinhala, Tamil, and Muslim communities in order to generate political momentum—and thereby reclaim the confidence of their own constituency—constitute a deeply irresponsible and dangerous form of incitement. Incidents arising in the Eastern Province, as well as in other parts of the country, must therefore be addressed by the government with utmost prudence, restraint, and complete transparency. Prompt and impartial resolution is essential to prevent further escalation and to safeguard national harmony.
