Please join me in congratulating Eric for this remarkable accomplishment! Eric will be on the job market for tenure-track faculty positions this fall (2024).

Eric’s work has been highly collaborative, but I would be remiss if I give a shout out to Paul Barford in particular. Working with Paul has been one of the highlights of our move to Madison, and his insights and mentorship have been instrumental in Eric’s work.

Eric’s work has not only advanced the science of security measurement, but has led to real-world security improvements for some of the most critical infrastructures backing modern computation. The practical impact of Eric’s work truly exemplifies the Wisconsin Idea.

Eric’s research takes a principled approach to the security of cloud and software systems, led by the key insight that securing these platforms is fundamentally a data problem: by developing new vantage points on attacker behavior, we can better defend against attacks.

Delighted to announce that my advisee, @EricPauley_, has been awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award at UW–Madison CS! This honor is given to just one graduate student each year, and it’s difficult to think of someone more deserving.

The SaTC 2.0 Vision Statement is a synthesized document that highlights the challenges, opportunities, and needs for new science and outreach within the SaTC community, and sets priorities for the next ten years of research in security and privacy.

At the request of NSF, @FKoushanfar and I have collected input from numerous members of the technology community. Input was solicited from the SaTC community across academia, industry, and government for insights on the next ten years in security and privacy research.

So #pennstate is going with the honor policy for students masking in class. I have 320 students in my CMPSC311 course this semester, which means if even 1% of students are unvaccinated & unmasked , I and the other students will be put in danger 153 times over 16 weeks.
