Man, I wrote a whole Battletech movie script when I was 17 years old. It’s was good too. I’ve been pushing to make a new adult animated series but the rights are a giant mess. I’m such a fan I went out of my way to reach out to both the Battletech and Mechwarrior video-games to voice characters. They both said yes.

I have to admit to being disheartened by the number of people who care nothing for the history and realism of Battletech. There is something very near and dear to my heart in the want for a setting that remains true to itself. Maybe it's just me.

@ToxinMortalis @ardan_blade Of the large robots as war machines, it's the most realistic. Using people to solve the balance issues was one of the brilliant parts of it. The weapons are real enough even if current versions are weaker. Who is to say we dont crack things like cold fusion and jump drives?

@ardan_blade Realism isn't a word I would use in conjunction with Battletech. Giant stompy robuts are the furthest thing from realistic. Cool? Oh hells yes. Neat lore? Absolutely! Realistic? Not a chance.

@tndbaker06 @palmettoarmory @BearCreekAR My first was a Del-ton that I built myself. All but one of mine are builds. The one AR I bought at the time retailed 2600, now is about 3200. It was an almost brand new police trade in I paid 1500 for. I got a lot of deals along the way or I wouldn't have as much as I do.

I’m sure many of you will be shocked. But 99% of AR owners would do better buying an inexpensive @palmettoarmory or @BearCreekAR with some reasonable glass than the Gucci shit. The other 1% just buy it for show.

Y’all know what’s coming: DA/SA guns are VASTLY inferior for carry and defensive use. They are better than DAO and revolvers by only the slimmest of margins. It’s not 1983 anymore.

@Grunt2A The thing about a handgun is it fits nicely on a nightstand. A rifle or shotgun doesn't. And you can have optics, light, and suppressor in a compact package.

Is a handgun the best option for home defense? The short answer is "probably not".... but it is absolutely better than a baseball bat. Millions of Americans only have a handgun. And people use them to successfully defend their homes every day. If it is what you've got, you can use it effectively. If you have the means, I suggest getting something more substantial for home defense. But if you don't.... they will work. Handguns do have their upsides. They are small and easy to use. You aren't going to knock the barrel into a door frame like you will with a hunting shotgun. They are easy to control. You can put a suppressor on most of them so you don't destroy your ears if you have to fire it in a hallway without making it a huge hard to manage gun. All of these are upsides to handguns. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you are not bringing overwhelming firepower to this fight with an intruder. You have to assume the intruder is armed. So at best you have equalized the power balance. The intruder probably isn't carrying a shotgun or rifle so you likely aren't outgunned. But you might be and you need to fight like you are. Caliber matters. There are all kinds of arguments for smaller calibers as carry guns. I understand that .380 disappears under shorts and a t shirt. But at home, go big. You aren't lugging it around all day. You aren't trying to conceal it. Make it a caliber that gets the job done. 9mm is the smallest option you should be considering for home defense. And it is a good option. Full size 9mm handguns are going to hold 15+ rounds. The 45ACP is a tried and true round but most guns that fire it are going to have a 7 round capacity and at most a 10. That is limiting. 10mm is a very hard hitting round that doesn't a sacrifice as much capacity in the right gun. But it kicks back hard so it might not be the best option for smaller people who aren't used to handling recoil. A .44 Magnum wheelgun is going to be a 1 shot stopper if you hit anywhere on the torso. That sounds great but it also has a slower rate of fire and if you miss you only have 5 more chances. Being good at the range is one thing. In a gun fight YOU ARE GOING TO MISS. Choose your gun, caliber, and capacity wisely. Once you have picked your handgun (or if you already have it) you have to be well trained in using it. You need to put a minimum a full case of ammo (1,000 rounds) down range before you can feel like you really know your gun. You need to be able to load it, clear a jam quickly, and aim it all in the dark because I absolutely promise you that if something is ever going to go wrong with your gun, it WILL happen at the least opportune moment imaginable. You should be practicing at the range and at home (practicing clearing it at home, not shooting it). At 3am when you are scared because a violent killer is in your house, it is the wrong time to be figuring out how your gun works. You need to have good defensive ammo. That means hollow points. Full metal jacket rounds that you use at the range will overpenetrate everything, including the bad guy. That doesn't mean a round is going to go through the bad guy and the wall behind him and into your child's bed. Pistol calibers aren't magic. But going through the bad guy at all means you wasted some of the bullet's limited energy on the drywall behind him. You want all the energy of the bullet to stay in the bad guy. Jacketed hollow points have more stopping power because they impart almost all of their energy into the target. There are a million options for hollow point rounds, which to choose is a whole different discussion. Whatever hollow points you choose HAVE to be tested IN YOUR GUN. They are expensive, but you need to buy a box of them and take them to the range. Make sure they cycle properly. Hollow points are notorious for causing jams in semi autos because the tip isn't pointy. They get caught on the feed ramp all the time. Your gun probably runs 9 out of 10 brands of hollow points just fine. But 3am is a bad time to find out that it doesn't run the brand you chose. Do your research on which hollow points you want, buy a box, and run the entire box through your gun. If it cycles cleanly without any jams, buy a new box of the same hollow points and keep that for home defense. Make sure you have magazines loaded. Whether or not to keep a round in the chamber for home defense is also a whole different discussion (I do, and I highly recommend it). If you choose not to keep a round chambered, you must at least have the magazines loaded and stored next to the gun or the whole thing is useless in a crisis. I have loaded 8 bazillion rounds into magazines in my life and I'm pretty fast at it. But I'm still not fast enough to get it done in the dark before someone can make it up my stairs. And you need to have AT LEAST 2 magazines loaded. Magazines jam. They get emptied during a gun fight. They get dropped and bounce under the dresser. Etc. Have a backup ready to go. You should be defending your home with a handgun from a defensive position. Don't go hunting the bad guy. You aren't Chief Rybeck defending the USS Missouri from Tommy Lee Jones. Have a dark room picked out THAT YOU CAN GET TO where you are looking into a more lit area, preferable a choke point where an intruder's movements are limited. (a doorway, thin hallway, staircase, etc). Aim your gun towards that area and stay quiet. Wait for the bad guy to present himself. Make sure that you are aimed towards a wall that is safe to hit if you miss, meaning no kids' rooms behind it, no busy sidewalks behind it, etc. If you have to fire, don't take 1 shot and wait to see if the intruder stops coming at you. Barring a shot to his temple a 9mm probably didn't immediately incapacitate him. Even if you knocked him down he is probably still able to get a few shots off at you and now he is pissed off. Home invaders tend to be high on drugs. It is possible he got hit in a non vital area and didn't even notice. You need to be paying attention to the threat and you need to fire until he stops being a threat. THEN STOP SHOOTING. Don't reload and do a second mag dump. That is when prosecutors get all liberal. You also want to conserve your ammo. The intruder is probably alone.... but you don't want to use up all your ammo and THEN find out he has a well armed friend with him. Once the threat of the first guy has ended stay ready. Don't come out of your hide position until you are sure the threat has ended. Personally, I have a handgun ready to go that will make sure I can get to my more powerful guns in the middle of the night. I don't like to sleep with an AR-15 under my pillow. I find it uncomfortable. Lots of hard pointy edges. I want to make sure I am immediately armed so I am not totally vulnerable while I get to my rifle or shotgun (whichever is your choice). But if you only have a handgun option the above should help make you more effective.

I agree 100% with everyone saying it's a tragedy they now waste $10M per episode on SFA when ENT didn't get a proper crescendo and finish. IIRC they were spending $2M per episode of ENT at its (rushed) finale. For the price of both seasons of SFA they could have funded ENT through a 7th and final season, with plenty of cash to spare. ENT really did deserve better than it got.

@GeeksGamersCom Someone in Hollywood actually gets it. Another factor that nobody considers is the advertising needs to better target viewers in the media they consume. I can't remember the last trailer I saw. Playing them on TV does no good as I never watch it. Any streaming I do is ad free.

As many of you know Rascal has a penchant for the dramatic. So here we find him in 18th century regalia surrounded by a bunch of extras (not sure who is paying for their time) celebrating one of his and ours favorite founding fathers (of whom I am proudly related). 251 years ago, today, on March 23rd 1775, the venerable Patrick Henry gave his famous off the cuff no notes and from his patriotic heart speech, "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!" We celebrate that today with a giveaway of both a @TraditionsPF Old Ironsides .69 caliber black powder cannon AND a @kimberamerica Liberty 1911 chambered in the quintessentially American .45ACP! We use these giveaways to spread the word of our shop and our cause which is to make a living arming the great and patriotic American people! Please FOLLOW, REPOST or QUOTE POST, and REPLY TO ENTER! Winner will be announced this coming Monday. Good Luck Godspeed & of course GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH!
