One of my favorite things about the Gorillaz short film is how slow and meditative it is. It's a direct rebellion—not only against AI slop—but also of the TikTok-ification of visual mediums. Everything needs to be quick, snappy, and going as fast as possible for maximum virality

All backgrounds were created digitally using Photoshop and a graphics tablet. However, we were also provided with HD scans of hand-painted poster paint washes and semi-abstract paintings to integrate into the backgrounds to help achieve this look.

@ElsaPato40 @gorillaz @thelinestudio There were indeed a few misunderstandings! All the backgrounds were painted in Photoshop, but we were asked to replicate a hand-painted look. We were also provided with HD scans of hand-painted poster paint washes and semi-abstract paintings to help achieve this style.

We worked incredibly hard alongside Jamie Hewlett to make it as period-accurate as possible and, like all our projects, it was hand-drawn by an incredible team of artists. We even used a variety of practical effects in the film, which was a lot of fun to do. We had a brilliant time making this film and learnt a huge amount while studying the masters of the 60s and 70s. If you’ve been following the release of The Mountain, you know how special and meaningful this project is. We’re so proud to be a part of it and want to say a massive thank you to Jamie and Eleven Management for trusting us to tell this beautiful story.
