If Tolkien were alive to respond, his answer would likely sound something like this:
"I never set out to write a treatise on medieval governance or the practical burdens of kingship. My work is a mythology an exploration of moral truth, not political mechanics. Aragorn is not meant to be a bureaucrat but an archetype: the just king of legend, much like Arthur. Myth is concerned with the heart of a ruler, not the tax policies of his court.
The question of governance in the modern sense belongs to another kind of story one that I entirely respect, but did not seek to write. Real history is indeed complicated, but myth speaks to deeper, older truths. Power in my world is already perilous; no one may wield it without cost. Even the wise refuse the Ring, for good intentions alone are never sufficient. In that sense, my work hardly denies the burden of rule it only treats it in a different language.
As for the orcs: they are not a people I delight in destroying. Their existence is a tragedy, a corruption of something that was once good. No just king would slaughter the innocent, for even in the darkest creatures there remains a spark of the original creation. Mercy is not weakness; it is the highest form of strength.
You ask questions proper to politics. I ask questions proper to myth. Both have their place, but they need not answer each other in the same terms.

This was maybe my answer to Tolkien, whom, as much as I admire him, I do quibble with. Lord of the Rings had a very medieval philosophy: that if the king was a good man, the land would prosper. We look at real history and it’s not that simple. Tolkien can say that Aragorn became king and reigned for a hundred years, and he was wise and good. But Tolkien doesn’t ask the question: What was Aragorn’s tax policy? Did he maintain a standing army? What did he do in times of flood and famine? And what about all these orcs? By the end of the war, Sauron is gone but all of the orcs aren’t gone – they’re in the mountains. Did Aragorn pursue a policy of systematic genocide and kill them? Even the little baby orcs, in their little orc cradles? Real-life kings had real-life problems to deal with. Just being a good guy was not the answer. You had to make hard, hard decisions. Sometimes what seemed to be a good decision turned around and bit you in the ass; it was the law of unintended consequences. I’ve tried to get at some of these in my books. Riil… Internalnya emang ancur banget. Bulan pertama telat itu dijanji-janjiin trus katanya tanggal sekian invoice clients masuk/ada funding investor. Dijanjiin saham fafifu sambil ekspektasinya karyawan tetep kerja. Setelah menahan-nahan, bulan ke-4 langsung kirim email ke CEO buat nagih gaji—malah si CEO gaslighting nyuruh “bersyukur bisa masuk perusahaan ini yang sistemnya gak kayak perusahaan indo”.
Ngeluh dikit di WA story privat malah dikatain “meludah di sumur sendiri” sama ex-coworker sesama orang indo 🤡
Ada kali gaji 4 bulan total 22jutaan gak dibayar sampe udah hampir 3 taun ini

@peakyartesian @kudanielbintik Nah ini hehe, ya gak mungkin lah karyawan tsb gak nanya ke hrdnya sendiri soal gaji yg telat. Pasti mereka tanya dulu ke internal. Internalnya kacrut, ya mau gamau pake jalur viral. Gaji itu hak loh, ga bisa diperbaiki cm dg kata2 mutiara jelek 😔

Sebenarnya aku gak mengerti dengan perumpamaan "Jangan meludah di sumur sendiri" dalam konteks pekerjaan.
Kenapa mengkritik itu diibaratkan meludah? Kenapa nggak dibayangkannya mengkritik itu buat ngebetulin masalah pada sumur/perangkatnya?
Misalnya, ada sumur nih terus si embernya bocor. Terus kita bilang,
"Yah elah, nimbanya udah capek tapi dapat airnya dikit mulu dah. Ternyata bocor. Jelek sih kualitas embernya, pantesan gampang bocor".
Bukannya dengan mempoint out masalah itu biar embernya diganti ya dengan yang gak bocor? Kenapa diibaratkannya tuh meludah ke sumurnya?
Memangnya dalam kondisi literal pun kalau ada masalah gitu, orang akan meludah beneran ke sumurnya?
Ini juga seringkali terjadi deh saat kerja di pemerintahan Tuvalu. Kalau sidak, yang jelek-jeleknya ditutupin. Biar kayak gak ada masalah. Padahal kan diomongin ya biar diperbaiki??

@kultusterlarang i literally only said would u please add "allegedly" or just state that these "aren't entirely facts, just based on what we can find from what people gathered", because surely you don't want to exaggerate the history of some ethnics and paint them as some monsters, right :)

Even if it’s actually happens & not just allegedly—so what? Mangai binu headhunting exists. And is it barbaric? Is it violates human rights standards? Yes, but that perception comes from on our moral lenses. Many indigenous teachings behave at a different levels from our Axiology
