This is part of the huge amount of work local people have done to understand and celebrrate their local heritage. The Aylesham Centre needs developing yes. But the new development needs to be beautiful. Ideally gentle density and with hopefully some social rather/as well as affordable housing too. This is not to demonise Berkeley Homes in any way but if they sat down with the locals and the Council and did some number crunching together, I think a much better scheme that does not overwhelm Peckham could be designed. A scheme that benefits all the parties involved amd everyone gets excited about.

Among all the scandalised media coverage, YIMBY outrage and @BerkeleyGroupUK bosses playing the victim, a reminder that by 2 years ago we had accumulated over 25,000 signatures in campaigns against the overdevelopment of the Aylesham site #Peckham ⬇️

35,000 new homes built in Southwark over the last 25 years! Waiting for the magic supply & demand formula to actually lower house prices but...

I'm instinctively pro-development, but I think the opponents of this scheme have a point, at least when it comes to the character of the area. The proposed development is ugly and it shouldn't be beyond Berkeley to design something sympathetic to the local architectural heritage.

Please make it happen. Housing should be infrastructure not a commodity class!

Great news for Peckham, as Berkeley Homes' monstrous plan to build THIS is turned down, with the inspector citing English Heritage's objection that it would be "an enormous wall of development, resulting in harm."
