We have big A Level numbers which is great but the mark load is HUGE. Whole class feedback sheets have been a game changer. Specific feedback strengths and weaknesses numbered for students, SPAG noted, highlighted mark scheme descriptors and specific reflection. #historyteacher

A teacher emailed me and asked ... Is it cheating to use an AI paraphrasing tool like Quillbot? Below is my response. Let me know what you think and what you'd add/change ... Hey , Good question. If the assignment is to paraphrase something and students use it and pass it off as their own, I'd consider that cheating. But it all depends on how you want to use the tool. Some teachers might see value in creating an assignment like this: ✨ Teacher creates a summary with a tool like Quillbot ✨ Students do their own paraphrase ✨ Student compares their work to the AI-created one to see similarities and differences ✨✨ BONUS: Student argues for which one is best??? Teachers might use Quillbot to create a summary of concept learned in class as part of student learning resources. Or they might create a paraphrase to provide students who have IEP needs to help support them. I'm not a die-hard advocate of this particular tool ... just discussed it because you brought it up ... ... but I think there are lots of ways some of these AI tools can be used if they fit in the goals and strategies of teaching the class. I dive into this concept in depth using an AI assistant like ChatGPT and student writing as an example: ditchthattextbook.com/ai-cheating/ We do want to preserve student thinking and the development of skills that will serve them in their future lives ... ... so the way we design our activities will be crucial. We also don't want to shield students in a bubble from the reality that AI is here and is becoming a bigger and bigger part of life and work.
