@brady_h The only thing MDPI does well is to attachs the peer-review dialogue document. No surprise an article like this ends up in MDPI with that state of peer-review and pay-to-publish model.

A recent study claimed that what you eat before exercise - and therefore the type of fuel you burn - isn't consequential for performance. Therefore, one can eat high-carb or low-carb, and it won't make a difference. Statistically speaking, that might be so. But this graph from the study is pretty damning, in my opinion. About 73% of runners ran faster after the high-carb meal, while 27% responded better to low-carb. The trend clearly favored overall faster times after the high-carb meal.

Take home: i) develop better protocols, ii) use exercise domains but iii) work or distance-matched vs. time-matched (racing = distance = ~work) iv) use real-world zone distribution v) test-retest vi) race virtually?

📢New: rdcu.be/ead4q - Scoping laboratory-based cycling race simulation protocols - w/ @timpodlogar. Durability=🔥 + influences performance. Fixed-intensity protocols are good for understanding phys mechs and useful for 🏃 perf but 🚴‍♂️races = variable intensity.

If researchers are planning for a home-based cycling intervention study (large pool of potential participants and more rapid data collection vs lab-based) understanding habits can improve methods design to maximise adherence.

We evaluated people's self reported habits when using home-based indoor cycling, which has increased in popularity in cycling and triathlon communities over the last decade. Reasons why, equipment used, Training frequency/intensity and nutrition

@DanielBerglind Why split the data set into two articles? One-Week High-Dose β-Alanine Loading Improves World Tour Cyclists’ Time-Trial Performance (mdpi.com)... quant > qual? ANOVA vs. Non-para? When 10' TT and when uphill TT? Sample size based on their own same study...

7/n Personally, this PhD project was quite the experience, covering the entire spectrum of emotions: from extreme excitement, happiness and privilege to live in and experience New Zealand for 3.5 years to extreme frustration and despair due to ongoing delays on public IP
