@horrormemoir This round of the controversy started because an indie game called Knee Deep dared to post in the otome subreddit. It met the criteria for otome in the subreddit. If anyone has a problem with it they should just not go in that subreddit.

@femaIeprotag The ones that keep having a problem with pronoun choice is the tourists who only got into otome from L&DS. The otome subreddit where most people primarily play JP otome has had the same definition for like a decade and it wasnt controversial until recently.

@onlyfollowoshis @xavieeena They are both and amare wasn't really used until recently (I'd argue it still hasn't caught on in any meaningful way). Go on the otome subreddit and you'll find lots of discussion of those two games. They met the subreddits definition which has been unchanged in a decade.

There are queer people who dont identify as she/her that have no issues with the genre. If you have an issue playing as a she/her character tho 👀 Aside from learning about "boku", perhaps add "Amare" in your Japanese vocabulary.

@meowzeeva There have always been JP otome with female LI routes and MCs that are gender ambiguous, crossdress, and/or use masculine pronouns ("Boku"). These newbies could not handle Jack Jeanne.
