The majority of countries that constitute the OIC are predominantly made up of Sunni countries. Often we find that in the background sectarianism amongst the more wealthier states dominates choices and results of the OIC. The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) itself was established in 1969 following the arson attack on the mosque — precisely to coordinate collective Muslim action to defend Masjid al-Aqsa. Yet today, at one of the most critical moments in the modern history of Masjid al-Aqsa, that collective responsibility remains largely unfulfilled. Where, then, are the supposed custodians of Muslim lands and guardians of the Ummah’s sacred sites? Where is the collective resolve of governments that claim stewardship over the honour, sanctities, and future of the Muslim world? #HandsOffAlAqsa
