🇨🇦 Adam Runnalls posted late last night that he has decided to retire. The 27yo has been the standard bearer for the Canadian men the last 3 years. He finished as high as 38th Overall in the 22-33 season. He’s transitioning to a coach role. It’s really a new era now #biathlon

🇳🇴 Karo Knotten had an appendectomy after being bothered by abdominal pain off and on since mid March. When we saw her in Oslo she looked truly miserable. While usually a quick diagnosis sometimes it does take awhile and in her case it ruptured. On the mend now though! #biathlon

@BAShelley Undoubtedly. The Biathlon Canada is significantly under funded compared to similar sized federations. It's a problem with Canadian funding of all Olympic sports really. Thankfully they seem to be turning that around. But the result is athletes turning away early

@penaltyloop Presume one of the main reasons for this is lack of money and sponsorship? At some point you got to start prioritising what pays the bills.

🇨🇦 Sad to see 2026 Olympian Benita Peiffer’s retirement today. Just 25yo, another young Canadian, like Logan Pletz and Haladan Borglum, riding off into the biathlon sunset. She had her peak in 23-24 with 4 top 40’s including career best 22nd! Thank you Benita! #biathlon

@SingleMaltBiath This makes me really sad. I know decisions like this are complex but with so many young Canadians turning away from the sport it's feels like once again a symptom of a much bigger issue, the reluctance of national investment in sport. Hopefully we're seeing the end of that though

@penaltyloop @RedGiorgio81 Don't read too much into it. The new criteria of the German Olympic Sport Federation for Olympic Cadre are rank 1 to 8 in the Olympic Games or World Championships of the last season. There is no distinction between team and individual events. World Cup results don't count.

@penaltyloop It’s important to undeline the athlete status. So Hettich, Tannheimer and Voigt are OK, so I guess they are the only ones sure to have the place in Kontiolahti. Good to see Puff back in the team
