Today I'm announcing my departure from Daystar. I have nothing but love for everyone on that roster. Sometimes the long term vision just doesn't align, and that's okay. I don't know what my future in esports looks like right now, but I'm grateful for this chapter in my life.

There's quite a few problems that I believe are contributing to the trajectory of Siege esports (and esports in general). These can apply to other titles but not inherently. 1. EWC is killing smaller orgs, making it harder for lower-performing teams to get picked up. This is less common in siege, but still happens where an organization will pick up a roster on a high salary, the team will fail to make EWC and the players will be LFO for the second 1/2 of the year. This creates a cycle of players getting picked up for stage 1, then dropped post EWC. This is obviously bad for the players, but also for viewers when it comes to building and continuing storylines. 2. Viewership doesn't convert to fandom. This is a problem that can and needs to be solved by multiple groups. Orgs need to make more content, Ubisoft needs to promote organizations better, and players need to build personal brands to convert viewers into their fans. 3. Sponsor restrictions are limiting growth. At Daystar we were contacted for multiple sponsors such as gambling, CBD/Delta-8 products, nicotine products. All with significant financial support that would benefit the organization and the players. I understand the reasons for it, but a lot of the more traditional sponsors have already been burned by bad players in esports, or are involved in other scenes and don't want to return. 4. Player salaries were disproportionate to their value. This is the first year where I believe that player salaries are close to their actual value for an organization. You don't need to be a world class player, to increase your value. There needs to be a bigger focus on showcasing personality and building individual brands. 5. There aren't enough ways to monetize as an organization, there should be no reason why players can't have sponsors in the background of their webcam, or shout them out on broadcast during an interview. I believe that making a few key changes would instantly turn the scene around, but it depends on all parties to make it happen.
