@wolfejosh false premise here. First off, there are far fewer HHMI investigators; 2nd, most of them were NIH-funded before getting HHMI funding. HHMI can 'skim the cream'; on average this means their grantees may seem to do better, but plenty of NIH-funded scientists in the same league
