@bubbleboi I’d recommend reading the full article (he posted it publicly on Facebook), which is actually quite thoughtful. Besides he’s clarified today that he meant if this scheme were to be done, it’d come from excess tax revenue generated, not from excess company profits

One of the things I have learned over time is how I will react to volatility is most highly correlated with how strictly I adhere to the constraints I set for myself about what I put in the book. Self mastery first and then mastery of process. It is easier for me to show discipline in what goes in the book then it is to show discipline in what’s happening to the book.
Paul Enright@pmje73

I think constraints are most powerful in the transition from stock picker to portfolio manager. The first portfolio you manage should have materially more constraints on what can go in the book than the constraints on what risk profile the output of the book produces.

@citrini ISC is a Korean Winway (6515 TT) but better imo with additional upside in memory testing (going upstream into testers via Hynix relationship)

Some interesting Korean names I’ve been looking into: 1) APR Corporation - imo the only cosmetics name globally worth owning. Insane socials ground game and huge ramp coming from offline penetration in US + SKU expansion beyond their very successful Medicube product. You’ll say its run up a lot, I’m confident its going higher. Excellent management. 2) Park Systems - Metrology leader, solid pure play on AFM. 3) Wonik IPS - ALD/CVD/PECVD for memory. Key equipment makers for Samsung foundry. 4) ISC Co - kind of like Korean Teradyne. Margins expanding as early system level test socket market basically a duopoly between ISC and Winway. Still cheap. 5) Mico Ltd - kind of like Korean Element Solutions. Precision cleaning + ceramic chamber components. 6) Hyundai Rotem - TANKS.

(Exclusive) Rumors: NVIDIA to Outsource to Intel in 2028; Three-Level Interpretation of TSMC’s Strategic Thinking TSMC almost dominates advanced processes and advanced packaging, becoming a target for the United States. Chip customers simultaneously bear the heavy responsibility of "American manufacturing." Due to cost issues and capacity shortages, the model of highly concentrating production at TSMC in recent years has shifted toward a new strategy of "multi-sourcing and risk diversification." Recently, rumors from the supply chain suggest that, in addition to Apple, NVIDIA has tentatively established that its Feynman architecture platform, debuting in 2028, will cooperate with Intel. However, the mindset of the two giants is similar: "low-volume, low-end, and non-core" is the primary strategy. They hope to meet the directives of the Trump administration without affecting their cooperative relationship with TSMC. That is to say, although they are adopting a dual-foundry model, they aim to minimize mass-production risks. NVIDIA Feynman Architecture Generation: Seeking Partial Cooperation with Intel In addition to announcing a $5 billion investment in Intel in September 2025, NVIDIA's latest plan is to cooperate with Intel on the Feynman architecture chip, the successor to the Rubin series. The GPU die will still be outsourced to TSMC, while the I/O die will partially adopt Intel's 18A or the 14A process scheduled for mass production in 2028, depending on the subsequent yield and mass production status of 14A. Finally, it will be handed over to Intel's EMIB for advanced packaging. It is understood that based on the final advanced packaging proportion, Intel will account for a maximum of about 25%, while TSMC accounts for about 75%. Supply chain sources stated that under the goals of American manufacturing and tariff pressures from the Trump administration, U.S. chip giants had already discussed cooperation with Intel. However, because 18A did not meet customer expectations, the timing of cooperation should be the 14A process mass-produced in 2028. Compared to the high risks of introducing 14A and 18A processes, most companies' cooperation with Intel starts with EMIB advanced packaging. CEO Lip-Bu Tan recently stated that two customers are currently evaluating the specific details of the 14A process. Additionally, the timing of Intel winning customer orders can be judged from the increase in capital expenditure. Supply chain operators analyzed that the American manufacturing goal faces cost and yield challenges, but under the reality of politics, supply chain resilience, and limited TSMC advanced packaging capacity, U.S. chip giants are bound to initiate a dual-foundry strategy. Apple’s Entry-Level Processors Turn to Intel Supply chain operators also stated that the foundry cooperation product Apple has been discussing with Intel for a long time should be the "entry-level M-series processor" carried by the MacBook, which is currently manufactured by TSMC. In fact, the Apple Mac series has used Intel x86 processors since 2006, and Intel also established a dedicated "Apple Group" production line for it at its Oregon fab in 2005. However, in June 2020, Apple officially announced the launch of the Arm-architecture chip "Apple Silicon," and the Mac series fully switched to self-developed chips two years later. At that time, Apple's primary consideration was to expand supply chain control and integrate the ecosystem to increase consumer loyalty. Another key factor was the delay of Intel's 10nm process, which threatened to affect the launch of new Mac models. Why is Apple Restarting Cooperation with Intel After 3 Years? Supply chain operators revealed that, consistent with the considerations of other chip companies, the main reason for Apple's change in foundry policy is still the American manufacturing goals and tariff shocks led by Trump. Secondary factors include cost, diversifying single-source manufacturing risks, and capacity shortages. How Will TSMC Respond? Three Strategic Calculations Currently, it is observed that Apple and NVIDIA are making gradual adjustments with the products that have the lowest foundry risk. Others in talks with Intel include Google, Microsoft, AWS, Qualcomm, Broadcom, AMD, and Tesla, as well as high-certainty long-term large orders for U.S. government contracts. However, whether Intel can meet the needs of technology leaders who are already accustomed to the TSMC model remains a major variable. For TSMC, it has already foreseen that many customers will turn to Intel for production. Although some orders are diverted to Intel, it is actually "more beneficial than detrimental" to TSMC. Operators believe there are at least three levels of strategic considerations: First, it can reduce monopoly and regulatory concerns. Second, it can release U.S. political pressure. Third, the spillovers are only "non-core" orders, which helps future bargaining and supply. On one hand, it provides a solution for concerns that TSMC’s market share in the wafer foundry industry is too high, which might involve antitrust laws. On the other hand, appropriately releasing non-core orders can also alleviate the pressure from various requirements continuously issued by the Trump administration. Thirdly, TSMC still has the confidence to stabilize the core high-end chip foundry orders from major manufacturers. Perhaps only after customers have tried transferring orders to other foundries will they miss the excellence of TSMC. This will be more advantageous for TSMC’s future pricing and supply. The spokesperson systems of operators such as NVIDIA and Apple consistently do not comment on supply chain news.

Just in: NVIDIA is exploring collaboration with Intel for its Feynman GPUs (DigiTimes) - The GPU compute die is still expected to be manufactured at TSMC, while the I/O die could be partially produced using Intel’s 18A process or its 14A process, which is slated for mass production in 2028. - This will depend on the future yield and ramp status of Intel’s 14A process. - Advanced packaging is expected to be handled on Intel’s EMIB platform. - The final split of advanced packaging is estimated at up to ~25% for Intel and ~75% for TSMC. $INTC $NVDA

I previously simplified the process into Wafer Sort and Package Test, but there are actually countless testing steps skipped in that description. In the Chiplet era, the steps in between are what matter most. Unlike monolithic dies, a single faulty chiplet can ruin the entire expensive package. This makes rigorous KGD (Known Good Die) verification and Interconnect testing essential before the final assembly.
