Life is more interesting walking, riding bicycles, trains and buses. And ferries.

If you wouldn't walk on it, why expect people to ride on it? East Parade, East Perth

“I’m not saying you can’t drive a car: what I’m questioning is having someone subsidise my decision to drive and park.” Parking is being managed in cities “like a badly-run charity,” & that money comes from somewhere. From Australia, relevant everywhere. theage.com.au/national/victo…

@bikewalkperth Yes, the wayfinding design standard for cycling in Western Australia needs to be fixed. The font is too small.

It dawned on me today that road authorities must think riders have much better eyesight than motor vehicle drivers.

@bradpettitt Yes. Could’ve also reduced width of driving lane and moved trees across to allow more space.

@perthbiker It’s a weird one as there’s still room for it to continue between the trees and the footpath up to the mall as before.

New trees have been planted on the contra-flow cycle lane William St Fremantle. It now ends abruptly…at a cycling cul-de-sac?

@bikewalkperth Another example of local government ignoring Australian design standards. These new parking rails in Subiaco can be removed with a socket wrench in less than 60 seconds.

@Perth_Traffic No. Drive for the conditions. Although 40 km/h is still legal in WA school zones, a lower speed may be appropriate. Telling people to drive at 40 is irresponsible.

@JimMoore1963 In our dreams 🙂. Reality is carriageway 13.2m, cycle paths 1.5m, separators 0.3m, 3 driving lanes 3.2m(2 south/1 north). Designed for PM peak onto motorway, my guess.

@perthbiker At least the road authority had the political will to permanently remove on-street parking. But on what looks to be an ~12m wide carriageway. the cyclepaths are too narrow and the motor vehicle lanes too wide. 2×2.5m paths, 2x0.5m separators and 2x3.0m lanes would be much better.

Surprising. New protected cycle lanes on Spring Street, Perth. Not finished yet, needs line marking. In 2018 an unpopular proposal was painted lanes. Things are looking up.

@okreroy The ‘Road Work Ahead’ sign is high. Is it attached to a wall? Our WAust standard procedure is low with wide steel legs as tripping hazard.

Your walk to the train station will be a second-class experience all week because car drivers are being notified about two nights of road work. #townofcambridge

@bikewalkperth Construction workers usually get more protection from motor vehicle traffic than someone riding a bike to work, or children riding to school.

@bikewalkperth Ask Main Roads WA if the existing chain mesh fence will comply with safety regulations once it becomes a “worksite” while the upgrade is happening.

Seeking views on whether I’m being overly concerned. The Mitchell freeway PSP in Leederville doesn’t have a safety barrier that would prevent an errant driver from crashing vehicle onto path. In fact this happened last year. Main roads don’t care. My Q: Should I escalate?
