@educator4ever36 Our experience over 20 yrs of doing it this way is that if everyone has input & there is full transparency everyone leaves w/ the best possible schedule. As to “too many cooks” our philosophy is that the process might be slow but if you want ownership you have to put in the time.

@peter_nwp I always had a team and departments chose their representatives! And sometimes that was still “too many cooks” and seriously slowed the process down. God forbid there be mention of a PE teacher without last period planning!

The master schedule and student class placement is the most political thing a Principal does. Trust me.

@SustainTeaching I have been an administrator for 14 years and I made it part of my work agreement that I teach at least one course a year. It helps me stay connected with students and teachers, plus parents appreciate it.

We need to start taking advice from people who have ACTUALLY spent significant time in classrooms. The number of people who are advising schools who have never ACTUALLY taught is astounding. Our first question should be... how long did you teach for? What did you teach?
