Every time there is a floor-crossing, Carney and the Liberals will try to make it about anything but the truth: this is a battle between Carney-style cynicism versus those who believe politics should be about upholding sincere principles and values. jamiljivani.substack.com/p/the-cynical-…

This same MP, barely 90 days ago: “Really, the whole point of being an MP is to represent your constituents. So if they’re voting you in under one platform –for you to switch for whatever reasons, just seems to me to not be representing what you’re supposed to be there to represent.” “We elected you under this banner, and if you don’t want to be under that banner, then we deserve a chance to have a redo.” petrolialambtonindependent.ca/2026/01/11/gla…

At this important moment for our country’s future, Canadians with a broad range of experience and perspectives are uniting to build Canada strong. I am honoured to welcome Marilyn Gladu today as the newest member of this government and our Liberal caucus. In a time of global economic uncertainty, Canada’s success will depend on how we build ambition into progress and strengths into sustained advantage. Marilyn brings the practical, results-driven leadership this effort demands. Having spent decades of her career in engineering and international business, she understands what it takes to create good jobs, strengthen supply chains, and ensure Canadian industry can compete in a rapidly changing global economy. She has been elected by the people of Sarnia—Lambton–Bkejwanong in four straight elections since 2015, and repeatedly earned recognition from colleagues across Parliament for her proven willingness to work constructively across party lines. I’m looking forward to working closely with Marilyn to build a stronger and more independent Canadian economy, meeting the challenges of a changing world with lasting opportunities for all.

Blessed Good Friday to Christians commemorating this as a day of sacrificial love, of despair that on Sunday turns to hope. (Image from Alberta born artist William Kurelek’s Passion series, on permanent display at the Niagara Falls Art Gallery.)

Pope Leo XIV will carry the cross through all 14 stations of the Way of the Cross at Rome's Colosseum for the first Good Friday of his pontificate. It will be the first time a pope carried the cross for every station in the Via Crucis since the tradition was revived at the site more than six decades ago.

That the ATA finds it “offensive” that schools focus on teaching students how to think, instead of what to think, tells you everything you need to know about that organization’s skewed priorities. It also perfectly illustrates why this legislation is needed. cbc.ca/news/canada/ed…

Canada euthanized a man for partial blindness in the latest suicide-by-doctor story. CTV's framing? Not that these stories are horrifyingly common, but that Alberta's incoming laws to protect the vulnerable and suicidal would "eliminate the choice of those with degenerative disorders who may want to prepare for their death." Some days, I'm convinced that half of Canada's press corps are secret eugenicists. ctvnews.ca/edmonton/artic…

@cusackandrew Yes. One of the most remarkable biographies I've ever read. The gold standard for capturing a subject and era.

I was dining with a French bishop who sat on the board of the Fondation Charles de Gaulle. He said Jackson's is the best biography of de Gaulle. ‘You mean in English?’ I asked. ‘No,’ he replied. ‘It is the best of any language.’ (Takes a lot for a Frenchman to concede this.)

More evidence that the global decline in test scores that began after 2012 is linked to the proliferation of smartphones and computers in class: The slide was bigger in countries where students began spending more time on devices (for leisure) generationtechblog.com/p/phones-at-sc…

Competitive corporate tax rates attract investment and boost profits – something Canada could benefit from, especially given Canada's tepid GDP growth. Luckily, Canada once held this advantage – and can do so again. Learn more: cdhowe.org/publication/ca…

It’s time to bring back common sense and for the federal government to take another look at their restrictions on nicotine pouches. Let’s cut the red tape and treat it the same as other products so we can bring sales back into the proper channels and away from illicit markets. See my joint letter with Premier Danielle Smith @ABDanielleSmith to Prime Minister Mark Carney below:

Canada’s energy policy verges on insanity: New Brunswick is importing liquefied natural gas from as far away as Australia while refusing to develop its own substantial shale gas reserves, even though the province desperately needs investment and jobs and already sits near the bottom of North America in standard of living.
