This iconic graph tracks how rapidly our planet is warming. Yet every time it's shared on Twitter, someone always asks, "Why does it begin in 1850?" The answer is simple: it's when we first had enough thermometers to compute a truly representative global temperature average.

5. The most puzzling thing about this finding is that there is not more of a yield hit when we have really big observations for late planting. Sure it happened in some years like 1993 and 1995. But 2009 and 2019 go the other way.

The things you find when looking for something else: USDA "Farmer's Bulletin" #877, October 1917. The expected crop yields have changed a bit in the last 100 years:

Per @ESPNStatsInfo, before #IowaState (.083 win percentage in 2020-21), the team with the lowest winning percentage to reach the Sweet 16 the next year was Ohio State, which went 8-22 (.267) in 1997-98 before a Final Four run in 1998-99.

@JoanNiesen Be consistent with your approach to your work. Treat the Tuesday night HS basketball game between two struggling teams the same way you would treat a championship game. Your audience and future employers can tell when you 'mail it in'.

There is a fantastic chart in this post showing that even though we had record quits in November, hires were greater than quits *in every major industry.* Job-quitters are taking other jobs, not dropping out of the labor force, and job growth is very strong. This is good news!

Last jobs report of 2021 will be out tomorrow morning! I'm hoping for a strong finish to the year (though the rise of Omicron will be right on its heels). Here are some thoughts about this week's JOLTS and the upcoming jobs report: epi.org/blog/what-to-w… @EconomicPolicy #NFP

@ryanfagan Saw Cal Eldred play HS basketball. Dominated Iowa Class A. Second half of game he was the only guy for his team to take a shot. Blocked a shot over the back of another defender. Classic ‘Man among boys’ scene.
