@Top100Rick @dannyeldergolf TIO’s for the most part are not spirit of the game. Play the ball as it lies. If you have to have a TIO. Have drop areas that are in the rough. And you have to execute an over the shoulder drop. Or place it with a one shot penalty.

@dannyeldergolf I do think that stands are often too close to the action, so they can’t be out of bounds. This area was probably too broad.

Losing a golf ball and no penalty? People are losing their minds over Scottie Scheffler hitting a ball a mile wide and not finding it, then getting a free drop. Perfect example of internet rage for no reason. It’s easily explained:

@Top100Rick 15 seconds from when Sam Burns pulled his ball out of the cup. Scheffler takes more time than that just to pull the club out of the bag.

Your brain knows what to do. Pick a yardage, pick a target, hit. That’s it. Putting? You can’t read a putt anyway. Adding 30 seconds isn’t going to help. Your subconscious knows more than you do.

To all the idiots who think you need 60 seconds to study every shot: Explain Ryan Fox. He is the Champion Golfer of the Year and took about 10 seconds to hit most of his shots. And this is links golf, way more thinking than your local muni.

@brysondech If you didn’t agree with the ruling, you would not have signed the scorecard. You not the R&A is responsible for signing the correct scorecard. Why did you sign an incorrect scorecard?

@thekccurrent @CroixBethune @NWSL Croix seems like a good person to have as your friend. But absolutely deadly if she is your enemy. I’m 99% certain that being a soccer player is just really a cover as an international assassin. She scares me a bit.

@OwenGregorian Likely most facts presented have some connection to the truth. It’s just the facts left out and facts presented out of context that make documentaries BS propaganda.

@TomBrady80 @FIFAcom @FIFAWorldCup You are hallucinating. How about making all the calls correct instead of intentionally ignoring fouls. Ignoring fouls and “Letting them play” is not in the Laws of the Game. But not ignoring fouls is an important part of the rules. Because it protects the players. Failure.

@pgklee @FIFAcom @FIFAWorldCup I want a strong referee all day over a weak referee. Make the right calls. All the big calls are usually correct and have basis and they analyze and get it correctly. There used to be career ending challenges not red carded and goals not over the line given and that’s wrong.

Is there Spanish language broadcast of NWSL games? I can’t stand the English speaking commentators they just blather incessantly. I don’t wanna listen to the game on mute because I love to hear the crowd noise and whistles, I need the audio ambience.

Open champ Diaries Wed: -Played the front nine again with Sungjae. He’s really impressive off the tee and around the greens. Always a good time with Sungjae and Willy. -I’ve really gotten to like a lot of the holes at Birkdale. Lots of options off the tee and will be really tricky to make birdies. Two really well executed shots will be needed. A lot of the greens are actually very simple once you get it on the green. The newer greens have way more slopes and what not -Obviously pin dependent but I think I got most of my strategy figured out. For ex. I will be hitting driver on 1. Worst case, I should be able to bounce one on to the green. -Speaking of the first tee, they’ve built a pretty big grandstand around it the last few yrs and it’s super cool but it really throws off what we feel when we’re over the ball. It was super noticeable last yr at Portrush. You knew it was super hard off the right but the wind bounces off the grandstand and it feels left to right when you’re standing over it half the time. That’s why so many guys hit it OB left at Portrush on 1. I’ll really need to commit to the correct swing and line. -I’m second off at 6:46! 😳 My alarm is at 425 and my shuttle ride to the course is at 445 lol. That’s a first. I’ve played much better during early tee times so hopefully will get off to a good start! I haven’t played with Daniel but I’ve played with Andy and he’s a blast to play with. Looking forward to it. -I wish I was playing afternoon tomorrow so I could go to a pub and watch the England Argentina game though. Just to feel the atmosphere. Oh well 🤷🏻‍♂️ Thanks for reading til the end. Wish me luck!

Given the way the rules are written, the ref had no real choice but to call a penalty. But this is a perfect example of how the cost of a penalty to the defending team is often vastly disproportionate to the benefit that team got by committing the penalty. Yamal doesn't play this ball - he lets it deflect off his arm. And he has no real possibility of turning into a good scoring chance from where he was. So Diane's interference cost Spain maybe 0.2 expected goals (if that). But the benefit to Spain of the penalty was 0.8 expected goals, That's an outsized benefit - which is why players look for penalties.

Another look at the Lucas Digne challenge on Lamine Yamal that resulted in a Spain penalty

@JamesSurowiecki quite possible that Yamal turned his body to prevent getting kicked in the groin. That could easily have been determined to be a red card in addition to the foul which gave the penalty. You can still get a red card for Serious foul play, which the player moves/jumps to avoid.

There's no excusing Digne's play - he failed to control the ball when it came to him and then kicked recklessly. But Yamal never even tried to play the ball - he was looking for the penalty and protecting himself from the kick as soon as went into the box.

@TouchlineX The referee sucked but exactly in the same manner that every referee has sucked in this tournament. Not sanctioning fouls, ignoring obvious yellow cards. He sucked less than most. Another concacaf ref in tomorrow’s other semifinal. Expected disaster.

@npcaffey @SusanLiTV I mean, it could’ve been given as a handball. Then an indirect free kick yellow card for Spain from that spot in the box. Dead ball red/yellow for kicking another player.

So jumping in front of someone in the penalty box is now a penalty kick for your team?
