Everyone's watching Hormuz, but there's another chokepoint that should be keeping you up at night. The Strait of Malacca runs between Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore and carries more global trade than Hormuz does. At its narrowest, it's 1.7 miles wide. One bad incident and a fifth of global maritime trade slows to a crawl. An Indonesian official briefly floated charging tolls on ships passing through, just like Iran did at Hormuz. He walked it back fast, but the fact that it was said out loud at all tells you how the world is thinking right now. Source: Bloomberg
