Now why the heck would they do this? Scientists speculate that wombats, being territorial, evolved square poops so their poops would stay put on large rocks. Round poop roll off rocks, square poop stay put!

What they found: At the final section of the wombat's intestine the walls have varying amounts of stretchiness, which molds the poop so when it pops out of the wombat... Voila! Cube-shaped poop!

Wombats are so adorable that for the longest time no one could bear to cut one open to find out how it makes its square poops. Luckily for us(but unluckily for the wombat), scientists found one on the road that had been hit by a car. Just what did they discover? More tomorrow!
