I was just reflecting back over the weekend on my work last week with Sport Horizon UK
Since the finishing of my PhD contract, I have finished working in professional football clubs and have instead devoted myself full-time to working as the CEO of my business @DeelySport , and co-founder of @SportHorizonUK !
Both have been superseded by my 'job' as Dad & parent to my little 4 year old boy Caiden (with the brilliant @BrinRajathurai ) and first days of primary school and foray into football sessions on a Saturday morning (a whole other story of acting like crocodiles, showing his new coach his dinosaur water bottle multiple times, and trying to play into the opposite goal as all his teammates!!)
Setting up your own business and running your own company (ies) of course has its challenges. But the ability to be in charge of my own time, and be able to walk and drop off and pick up my son at school every day and have time at home to play with him, is unquestionably a highlight of running your own business.
The professional advantages of being able to pick the projects I want to work on and getting to collaborate with some of the best practitioners in the business is certainly a highlight!
Last week was a particular moment of achievement in that sense.
Across one working week, I had the opportunity to:
- bring on board 2 top-class consultants into the Sport Horizon ecosystem (more on that later!!);
- collaborate with a world-expert on an upcoming course on training load;
- organise a webinar with the biggest GPS company in pro sport;
- work with our data engineer to build an absolute awesome solution for us and professional clubs (which we will be launching in the coming months!);
- chat with a Tableau expert who is currently recording our next online course (again...more on that at a later date);
- speak to another start-up company about some very exciting things they are doing and how we can collaborate;
- organise another YouTube vlog episode with a top class sport science mentor;
- interact with lots of our course members about issues they are having with their club's data and how we can offer solutions to them;
- planning some conference attendances over the coming months with my work-mate;
- and coordinate with other Sport Horizon people in the background regarding our whole business journey and what we are going to be doing over the next 12 months!!
All in one week's 'work' with Sport Horizon!
So I feel lucky...and blessed, to be in this position. And never take it for granted. When I get these PhD corrections out of the way, perhaps if anyone ever wanted to chat about making the move across to a slightly different side of professional sport support...just reach out and give me a shout!
BTW...my favourite moment of the week has to be watching my young lad on his Buzz Lightyear strider bike racing his new little school friend on his scooter through the school yard...and somehow managing to not knock into all the parents or give his worried dad a heart-attack!
