The final Composer Award recipient is Mark Sanders. A drummer/percussionist, Sanders has been at the forefront of improvised music for over 30 years and is known for his playing in the fields of Free Jazz, Free Improvisation and beyond.

Artist Larry Achiampong tells us about parenthood, gaming, the impact of Covid, growing up in East London and the transformative power of art. The Award gave him the time and space to make plans and try new things and for self-care. Read the interview: phf.org.uk/larry-achiampo… 12/

The Award recognised Kate Young's talent and tenacity. She was able to properly record an album – with an 8 piece band including a string quartet. She is frank about the precarity composers face, but the Award was transformative.

Luke Bedford was one of the youngest recipients of the Awards. He explains how the Award allowed him to focus full time on composing. It gave him security at a crucial point and the confidence and freedom to explore new ideas.
