This deserved humbling by Japan felt like a custard pie to the face for suffering fans, writes @oliverbrown_tel ❗Doubts are swirling over both Tuchel’s technical wisdom and his ability to motivate this team ❌ Tuchel led England to a first-ever defeat to a team from Africa, and now to their first one from Asia 🤦♂️ Bleak realisation dawning that Tuchel no closer to forging a collective identity than when he started Read the full column below 👇 telegraph.co.uk/football/2026/…

Nagelsmann asked what are the sporting arguments based on which Leroy Sané keeps getting chances: "The arguments are that we need 1v1 players, we don't have that many of them, though there are alternatives. Games like the one against Slovakia are the benchmark for Leroy. He should always reach that level. The last game against Switzerland was okay, not really good and not very bad. Leroy knows what's needed of him and he has to show it. In the end we'll decide what's best for the squad. There are certain profiles we have to have in order to be able to face different styles of play. We don't have many players who can take on opponents on the right wing. Lenny [Karl] did very well, but we have to consider how long he can play and how stable he will remain. Jamie Leweling can also play there, but is currently injured. Hopefully we can make the right decision in two months"

Julian Nagelsmann says Jonas Urbig has left the national team as a precautionary measure and his injury is minor: "It's nothing serious, he could have continued training here with us, but I didn't want to push him too hard. That doesn't benefit him, it doesn't benefit us, it doesn't benefit Bayern either"
