theguardian.com/us-news/2024/m…. “No one would trust an arsonist promising to light fewer fires, and no one should trust big oil and gas climate pledges and plans,” he said. This new scorecard enables investors to assess companies’ actions relative to peers….”

@Martin_Abrams For any bus enthusiasts now is good time to see Streatham High Street. They were as far as you could see left and right of Becmead Ave. That’s 23 buses. And, we used to joke it’s like London buses. Some 30 minutes later I reached Sunnyhill Avenue where I started from.

I am deeply concerned by the traffic, congestion & delays to buses along #Streatham High Road and surrounding roads today and this evening.

apple.news/AnqOyD7GORFGWU… An interesting article on sub-contracted social media moderators in Nairobi. Don’t be fooled by thinking this is simply a job done by AI.

@cathynewman A prison building programme which is woefully behind schedule due to planning issues + Increased sentences + higher numbers on remand = visits to Estonia to see if they will take our incarcerated. Incompetent Tories.

@mrmarksteel We seem to live our lives an inside edge away from calamity. But we live another day revelling in the glory of a cover drive, not knowing what fresh hell tomorrow might bring.

I sat on a beach in the South of France today, listening to commentary of Zac Crawley of Kent sail past 150, in an area with the largest vote for Marine Le Pen in all France. Nothing’s simple is it?

@KimChaplain I fail to understand why given this was known about early on during the pandemic that no new Skills & Employment programmes were launched or existing flexed. Too much enphasis on older people and ill health. Longer Working Lives and EDI have failed.

@ITVJoel @ONS Easy to pick on education and strikes but continued lack of domestic confidence, investment in equipment, training, poor health, job security, and inequality. Not to say an appalling government record on tackling these issues and there by productivity is the real culprit.

Recession avoided but big picture is unheroic. The UK economy did not grow at all in February and grew by only 0.1% between December and February. Strike action by teachers + civil servants in Feb had material impact although - perhaps wisely - the @ONS doesn’t hasard an…

@Emilyishness Totally agree. 2nd placed in 4/5 interviews trying to get back into chosen career - ironically employment policy. Until we address recruitment bias / discrimination no meaningful impact on 50+ inactivity. Also employment law is too loose e.g post pandemic 50+ redundancies

If these “Returnerships” really are the Gvt’s main offer on 50+ employment in this Budget, then I have some questions. They boil down to: 🤷‍♀️Why would inactive 50+ do them? 🤷‍♀️Will they address any common 50+ barriers to work? 🤷‍♀️What…are they? More specifically 🧵:
Simon Ashworth@SimonAshworth

So Chancellor @Jeremy_Hunt is expected to now announce “Returnerships” for over 50s at Wednesday’s all important #SpringBudget - training that focuses on flexibility and takes previous experience into account, shortening the length of time over 50s have to be in training.

If Centrica can announce £3.1bn profits 3x normal levels and a £300m extra dividend to shareholders Customers who pay the most through pre-payment meters should be given shares in addition to Centrica’s largest emergency fund. #utilities #CostOfLivingCrisis #EnergyCrisis

The wealthy used to support the government by paying higher taxes. Now they lend it money and collect interest. The difference may seem trivial. It’s not. A growing portion of our taxes are now paying the rich interest on those loans. The wealthy sit back and get even richer.
