In 2020, I argued policing is a high risk profession which isn’t regulated by states as one. When the work began, 4 states did not have a mechanism to decertify officers after serious misconduct. The goal? Bring that down to 0 and improve law elsewhere. 1/ counciloncj.org/five-prioritie…

Ex-Minneapolis Officer Derek Chauvin, who was sentenced with 21 years in federal prison, is now making another attempt to overturn his conviction in the murder of George Floyd.

@PO_Potatoes @jnixy We follow each arrest case for 4-5 years prior to “coding” cases on 270+ quantitative variables. We, too, are interested in what the last few years data will show. Currently we are coding 2019 arrest cases of officers.

@jnixy @philstinson I'd love to see the data from 2019 till now, I'd be curious to see if there was a spike the last few years especially and what percentage were found guilty

We’ve added another year of data to the Henry A. Wallace Police Crime Database at policecrime.bgsu.edu. It now includes info on 16,563 criminal arrest cases from years 2005-2018 involving 13,600 nonfederal sworn law enforcement officers, each charged with one or more crimes.

@JasonIsbell What a difference it makes to the concert-going experience when the musicians just have fun playing music and sharing the experience with their audience.

@JasonIsbell A few weeks ago we went to the Jackson Browne concert in Toledo. During the concert, Jackson complained about his band, the audience, and the fact that he was playing in Toledo. Last night we went to the Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit concert in Ann Arbor, and Jason just had fun.

@DrAlexPiquero @POTUS But you seem to have a very narrow definition on the types of policing data should be collected.

Last week, an IWG on Criminal Justice Statistics that I co-chaired delivered a report to @POTUS on improving policing data.

I gave my old iPad to a man who just came home after 25+ years in prison. Unfortunately, it is so old that modern apps don't work with it. I've decided to buy him a new one. If you'd like to help out, keep reading.

@jnixy @ian_t_adams @apsrjournal The problem is that many fatal police shootings that are found to be legally justified are also found to be unnecessary, inappropriate, and in violation of agency policy.

@ian_t_adams @apsrjournal Zimring definitely said we could *eliminate 50-80% of fatal shootings* IF we made a series of policy changes. He did not say 50-80% were unnecessary by any definition.

"Unnecessary by any definition"?!? @apsrjournal is a great journal and produces some empirical pieces that are useful, insightful, and contribute a ton. But - this is ridiculous claim to lead with. "Any" definition would have to include legal definitions, for an easy example.

One of the officers involved in Breonna Taylor's death was hired as a deputy in a nearby county. We spoke with Philip Stinson on TMZ Live about "wandering officers":

TONIGHT on @IssuesOn1, @JCSchwartzProf on why police officers are criminally charged in less than two percent of fatal shootings and convicted in less than one-third of those cases. Watch @SpecNews1SoCal at 8:30 pm!
