It’s not as exciting as seeing multiple cranes on the skyline, but with inventory right-sized we are finally seeing new builds

@KaraWetzel @benssiegel @romyvarghese @Priyasideas Truthfully, a lot of that work started pre-COVID. But Cleveland has been a bit of a “canary in the mineshaft” for decades re:macro economic trends (manufacturing decline, etc.), and I think its experience with managing surplus office space could be instructive for other cities.

Pictures don’t do their presentation justice; the knowledge that was acquired and shared in this DOL was extraordinary. Even better - many of the facts and ideas shared were in response to their own questions about the Earth/sun/moon as a result of weeks of reading and study.

Started today @Anton_Grdina for their 1st grade Demonstration of Learning. Our junior scientists explained Earth’s orbit, phases of the moon and more in a video and Q&A. Tremendous work by students and teachers with this interdisciplinary, inquiry-based unit. @CLEMetroSchools

At Campus International K-8 today, where classes were starting new units of study. In 2nd grade, for example, students studied time-lapse videos of deforestation and hurricane damage as entry points into deeper investigations of climate change. @cis_explorers @CLEMetroSchools

Middle-school students were engaged in discussions around displacement and gentrification (and how it affects various communities), while KG continued their exploration of the theme “How the World Works” through an investigation into the changes we can observe each fall.

At Robert Jamison, one of our Leader in Me schools, students paused to track their own reading WIGs (Wildly Important Goals) as part of the school’s vertically-aligned progress monitoring system. Building, teacher and students all pushing toward the same growth goals!

At @mound_stem school, I visited a 5th-grade classroom where students’ curiosity about engineering and the essentials of bridge building culminated in a design challenge. Students received two pieces of paper and had to turn their research on bridges into a working prototype.

Observed some phenomenal teaching and learning this week. @Anton_Grdina, KG students were engaged in an inquiry cycle designed to answer the EQ: How do pumpkins grow? Lots of hands-on activities to spur their thinking and generate ideas (which the teacher recorded for later use).

Today I was at @whitney_pk and Robert Jamison K-8 for the first day of school for CMSD Kindergarteners. Lots of modeling, play and stories to welcome Cleveland’s youngest scholars. The joy and excitement was contagious (had me smiling all day!). @CLEMetroSchools

Another great day in the Redesign Network. Had a chance to visit four schools- @OHPerry1 @LuisMunoz_CMSD @Anton_Grdina and Sunbeam - where students were already digging into design (tech class), music fundamentals and more through their inquiry and personalized learning models.

@CLEMetroSchools Inquiry/IB schools feature dedicated maker spaces and inquiry labs that allow students to creatively explore their own questions using cutting-edge tools like GlowForges and coding programs. Students were already exploring today @HalleInquiry and @wrharperschool.
