I’m 60, and my son is 33. He still lives in my house, sleeping in the same room he grew up in and using the same closet I built for him when he was ten. He eats the food I prepare for him every day. He doesn’t work, doesn’t study, and doesn’t look for anything. He wakes up late, turns on the television or computer, and that’s how his day passes. If I don’t serve him breakfast, he skips it. If I don’t wash his clothes, he leaves them piled on a chair until he has nothing clean left to wear. But it wasn’t always this obvious. It started years ago, little by little, and I allowed it all to happen. When he was a child, I didn’t let him do anything on his own. I tied his shoes until he was twelve because he said it took too long. I did his homework for him “so he wouldn’t get stressed.” If there was a problem with a teacher at school, I went to speak on his behalf. If he argued with a friend, I stepped in. I always told myself, “He’ll have time to suffer when he’s an adult.” I never let him experience discomfort.

I just noticed this today - not much holding up live power lines on the pole just outside our place. I’ll ring Powerco tomorrow.

Anyone else having trouble with the new TVNZ+ app? First it kept freezing (sometimes within 30 seconds of the last time); then frozen visuals, sound OK. It ran OK an hour, now it can't open a new episode of ANYTHING! I've done all the 'have you tried' suggestions. Ugh! #TVNZ+

Hundreds of millions of people throughout the world are immersed in extreme poverty. Yet, disproportionate wealth remains in the hands of a few. It is an unjust scenario, in the face of which we cannot fail to question ourselves and commit to change things. There is no lack of resources at the root of disparities, but the need to address solvable problems related to a more equitable distribution of wealth, to be achieved with moral sense and honesty.

I have read a statement that “a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” and as I read that statement and as I reread that statement I cannot shake the feeling that the civilization from which that statement comes is one that is already dead.

I've been reliably informed that the CEO of New Zealand has been talking to the President of Europe. This gives me a lot of confidence that we are handling the fuel situation well. 😏
