I think this is interesting because in Episode I Anakin says he made the japor snippet for Padme so that she'd "remember" him, but Padme says she doesn't need it for that, because her "caring for [him] will always remain." When Anakin notices it around her neck earlier in Episode III, after his terrible dream of her death in childbirth, he smiles and says, "I remember when I gave this to you." So the japor snippet is associated with memory, enduring love, and children. Children are the enduring evidence that two people loved each other. They're like the japor snippet, because they're something beautiful that came about in an act of creation compelled by love.
