Content creation is part of what I do, but there is also production, marketing, brand development, sponsorships, partnerships, distribution, business operations, and countless hours of work behind the scenes. I understand firsthand what it takes to build something from the ground up without the backing of a major corporation. We continue pointing fingers at this corporation or that network for not allowing people to speak freely. But Ryan Clark said himself that he spent 11 years feeling oppressed because he was trying to fit in and could not fully speak his mind while working at ESPN. Now he is free. He is not down and out. He has access to valuable resources, powerful relationships, a recognizable name, a loyal audience, and his own platform. That is real power. I’m not looking down on him at all. I’m simply saying, open your eyes and recognize the opportunity in front of you. Embrace the independent life. Build your own table, control your own message, create your own opportunities, and speak directly to the people who support you. Corporations will always make decisions based on what benefits the corporation. That is why ownership matters. Independence may not always be easy, but there is freedom in knowing that your voice, your platform, and your future belong to you. You made roughly $29.9 million in the NFL. Then you joined ESPN in 2015 and, over roughly 11 years, reportedly made somewhere in the neighborhood of $15–20 million. You also started The Pivot, which is estimated to generate $3.5 million to $9 million annually. Now you’re talking about seeking acceptance and validation? Crying about this and that? Fam… man up. You have your own podcast. You have your own platform. You can say whatever you want, and your audience will follow you. Stop acting like ESPN is the only place your voice matters. Us independent media creators grind every single day. I put in 15 to 17 hour days producing content, and people still overlook what we do. We’ve been in the same rooms as y’all. The difference is, we had to pay to be there. Y’all got in for free. I’ll never forget paying thousands of dollars to cover Cowboys training camp as independent media, then watching The Pivot walk right in and get moved to the front because of borrowed credibility. Y’all got the exclusive access without ever reaching into your pockets. Over here at Law Nation Media, we’ve had to earn and pay for every single inch we’ve gained. Do you see me crying? What they did was remove more than 7,000 verified ratings, calculate the score using the 886 unverified ratings left over, and then declare that tiny group the “real audience.” Rotten Tomatoes has used Verified Audience as its default metric since 2019. Those people bought tickets and still chose to rate the movie. You can dislike Fandango prompting them...I do...but a notification doesn’t remove their agency or make their opinions fake. You can’t throw out almost 90% of the ratings because they didn’t give you the result you wanted and call what remains the truth. This isn’t exposing Rotten Tomatoes. It’s exposing the fact that you didn’t pass sixth-grade math.
