Because great criticism adds colour and perspective to art; an alternate, carefully crafted lens through which to view it.
Great criticism lets us see things we might not have seen and hear things we might not have heard. It can articulate feelings we often can't put our fingers on.
There's a reason why great critics are hugely popular and trusted, even when they're disagreeable or disagreed with.
It's a shame the word criticism typically has a negative connotation. The best critics are champions of the great and good in art. But you don't get that without honest takedowns of the fucking awful.
