This Monday, PierSight turned 2! 🥳🎉🎂 2023: Just an idea and a small team. 2025: A 50+ member team, $8M in funding, and a clear mission. Within just two years, we’ve been fortunate to achieve feats that usually take deep tech startups much longer: ✅ Joined Techstars Space Accelerator in Los Angeles ✅ Raised a $600k pre-seed and a $6M seed round ✅ Won the INDUS-X Oil Spill Detection Challenge ✅ Launched our first payload, Varuna, in Dec, 2024 ✅ Raised additional strategic capital, bringing total funding to $8M ✅ Part of the winning consortium for India’s first EO Constellation ✅ Developing our next products: DRONE SAR and MATSYA ✅ Building Varuna 2.0, our first commercial satellite, for launch next year And this is just the beginning. Two years down, many more to go :)

We've been able to launch an in-orbit demo satellite, build a product drone-based SAR. And also now we'll be able to launch our commercial satellite."

There's a critical satellite component that only a handful of organizations globally know how to build. @isro is one of them - but they don't manufacture it for commercial supply. So, we signed a technology transfer agreement with @INSPACeIND & @NSIL_India to manufacture it in-house. Once validated in orbit, we can manufacture this component for other space startups like ours, thereby reducing reliance on external manufacturers. Consider this as one of our many steps towards contributing to "Make in India".

This month, we made our first major investment towards establishing our own in-house testing infrastructure. We’ve started ramping up our own RF testing capabilities, beginning with the procurement of critical equipments like - spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, power meter, signal generator, and power supplies. Until now, we’ve been leveraging shared testing infrastructure at @INSPACeIND. But as we scale our maritime constellation, building our own testing and validation stack becomes essential. This investment is just a baby step in that direction, with much more to come in the next few months.

We’ve successfully completed the Critical Design Review (CDR) for the Varuna 2.0 spacecraft bus, marking an important milestone in freezing the satellite’s system-level and subsystem designs. The review was conducted by a distinguished panel of ex-@isro & @NASA scientists, who assessed the maturity, consistency, and readiness of the design. The panel reviewed the full spacecraft architecture, from requirements and PDR updates to subsystem designs, budgets, AIT planning, and key risks. With CDR successfully completed, we now move into subsystem manufacturing, followed by payload and subsystem testing.

Being a spacetech company founded just two years back, we didn’t think we would be here this soon, but glad we are! PierSight, as part of the winning consortium (@PixxelSpace , @sat_sure , @DhruvaSpace ), has formally signed a concession agreement to develop India’s first Earth observation constellation under a public-private partnership model. Over the course of the next four years, we will design, build, and launch two SAR satellites out of the total twelve satellites that are supposed to be a part of this constellation. In parallel, we continue building satellites dedicated for 24x7 maritime surveillance. We are ecstatic to contribute our SAR expertise to this significant mission for India’s space sector, and extend our gratitude to @GoenkaPk , @INSPACeIND , the Government of India, and our partners for their trust.

We’ve moved into our new office at @IIMAVentures, officially inaugurated on the 12th. As Varuna 2.0 is entering its assembly phase, our IN-SPACe facility needs to remain singularly focused on what it was built for: satellite AIT. In parallel, our new IIMA Ventures office allows our business, operations, and strategy teams to scale independently. This space will probably feel small sooner rather than later, as the team continues to grow. But for now, with Lord Ganpati’s blessings and a new home, we continue building :)
