Thread regarding the casting scene in RL from someone who has been on the cusp of the RLCS the longest. RLCS NA/EU is a pipedream. There are no open spots and have been no spots for a while now. Especially with shrinking budgets and talent teams across the board. Those who have gotten shots in recent years rightfully deserved them as they brought something to the broadcast that tier 2/3 talent could not. Feer for his 1v1 event coverage, tbates for his chef bates personality during CRL interviews, lemon for her massive resume of experience and casting chops, herc for her social presence and community outreach, veracity for her coverage of gamers 8 and outside events at a top level as a host. etc Even back in 2019 when I was passed over for rival series for non endemic talent such as spaceman, supersonic, and fdot they got the shot due to their years of hard work outside of rocket league and connections with the talent manager and have since proven that they deserved that shot every moment they spent in the booth. That was my first year hosting studio gigs and working a major B stream and I will admit back then I had no where near the chops of those who got the nod over me. Do you know why those of us on the CRL B stream got the call up this past season? 1. Budget. 2. We kept the scene interested through content when there was no CRL for a season using @ChampLeagueShow 3. Those of us not involved in the show had other work to speak for our experience such as the women's scene or other third party events I do want to put to rest any rumors that state we did not go to bat for those who were on the CRL A stream before. With any talent decision the talent don't make the decisions it is purely from those higher ups and those making the budgets. We vouched for everyone to return and to join them and to bring new faces into the scene as well to build a foundation for a b stream like we had in the past. Unfortunately with the state of esports as it is there is no wiggle room at this moment but maybe some day. Budget was a factor yes but they also wanted us from the B stream to be the talent this season even though we did all we could to have them make exceptions. For those outside of CRL looking in with hope to join the talent crew, as with RLCS, there is no budget or spots open for CRL anymore either unless they get a lot more funding. Do you know who they would reach out to in this case? RLCS talent or non endemic talent to bring more interest to the broadcast. As of right now and since 2019 there is no path of progression for a caster in Rocket League unless you stand out so much with your work outside of casting that the higher ups can no longer ignore you. There are no top tier third party events anymore and if there are they hire the RLCS talent as they want the most experienced and best team in the industry. If I was a talent manager and had the money I would do the same. Retired pros, big content creators, and anyone with enough influence are the ones who would get any future call ups if the budget expands again in tier 1. Not me or any other talent who has been grinding through weekly events and other gigs at the hopes someone takes a chance on you. Getting a liquipedia page and doing rlcs team stream coverage for free will not help you get noticed. Especially when there are so many top tier talent hurting for work. This is the hard truth of the current casting scene and it has gotten harsher for even RLCS talent this past year to the point where the majority of them won't be able to do this as a full time gig anymore. 0 tier 2 gigs only scholastic events remain that cut their budget every year. Off season has zero events for upcoming talent to bid at. My honest advice for anyone is to make a name for yourself outside of casting or in other scenes till you are too big to ignore. Cause in my own personal experience, most of the rocket league scene has no idea who anyone is that is not on the RLCS broadcasts and top team streams every week.
