It’s easy to get cynical about the news or the state of politics, but from my experience with successfully lobbying for Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell repeal, we can and must influence our government to shape the country we desire to live in! 🫡 🗳️

Being in the U.S. Capitol building again and other Congressional office buildings was a thrill, as I witnessed the machine that is our democracy chugging along.

We shared how a patchwork of sometimes conflicting state privacy laws creates waste, reduces completion, increases prices, and slows our ability to create more jobs.

I had the pleasure of meeting with the offices of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, and others.

Our efforts were organized by Engine, the non-profit group that advocates and lobbies on behalf of startups to create a more level and competitive playing field for innovation in America.

I was proud to represent @PILOT_inc and other diverse-owned on Capitol Hill in 🇺🇸 Washington D.C. Startup founders from across our great country, from different industries, states, and origins, lobbied Members of Congress for unified Federal data privacy legislation. @EngineOrg

Looking back over the seven years we’ve been open for business, helping people navigate their careers (and lives), makes me want to write a book about the PILOT journey called “Oh, the People You’ll Touch.” 🛫

I had to hold back 😭 tears as we spoke, tears of admiration for Brook’s growth, tears of satisfaction for knowing our product had such a profound real-world impact, & tears of awe that we continue to make progress towards PILOT’s mission “For Everyone to Feel Powerful at Work.”

As a result, she was promoted ✨to a new Global role that she assumed was years away, simply because she advocated for herself. She’s learned to set better boundaries, more ruthlessly prioritize and celebrate herself along the way.

She shared about here experience as a PILOT member in our 6-month leadership development program, including how it helped bring urgency to her career growth, kept her consistent, and provided reinforcement to do the things she knows she needs to do.

Speaking of good omens, at the end of a few incredible days I was enjoying a Mezcal 🍹Margarita at the DIAGEO bar on Cinco de Mayo, when Brook Simons, an employee came to say hello.

This week we assembled some of our ~50 person PILOT crew, and customers, for an offsite at @Diageo_NA HQ, a major customer, in NYC.

@pilot_inc 👩‍✈️ turned 7 🎈this week! Graduating high school I was given a copy of the Dr. Seuss 📚 book “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” which turned out to be an apt and good omen for things to come.
