"It's always been important to me to leave the sport in a better place than it was when I came along," says new European champion @M4ttRichards. He's "over the moon" after adding a maiden individual Euro title to his World success in the summer. Next, the podium in Paris...? 👇 @LENaquatics | @britishswimming | @SwimWales

I remember someone not too long ago was giving Matt Richards grief for being 'soft' by leaving a big training center to train with sort of an age group club. A very good one, but a club that mostly caters to youth. Some nonsense about not being able to handle the competition in practice. And then he won a World title. If that's 'soft,' lord please let me be 'soft' too. The point is that there is no one perfect fit for every swimmer. I think too much of swimming relies on "what worked for me must be the best way to do it, so that's what everyone should do." There's no rule that says you need to battle every day in practice with other World Championship contenders in order to win a World Championship. The men's 100 free has now proven that two years in a row (Popovici).
