🚨 One rule for them, another for the rest of us. An investigation by @techradar has revealed that local and national government departments have spent millions on VPN services, with several MPs even expensing commercial VPN subscriptions directly to the taxpayer. Yet, this is happening at the exact same time the government is consulting on whether to age-restrict or ban VPNs for the public, in order to prop up their unworkable social media bans. The hypocrisy is staggering. Politicians clearly recognise that VPNs are vital legitimate tools for privacy and cybersecurity, but when young people seek these exact same protections they are treated as inherently suspicious and threatened with digital exclusion. We cannot allow Westminster's misguided "safetyism" agenda to dismantle basic digital security. Privacy is a fundamental right for everyone online - not a luxury reserved for the political elite. In a speech to the EU Parliament, German MEP Christine Anderson warns that under-16 social media bans are merely a pretext to connect online activity to a digital ID. "The EU wants to scan private messages sent from your phone. They say it's about illegal material online, but in practice it means scanning everything that people say." "It would inevitably require identifying every user through digital ID." "That is called surveillance. And putting one's own citizens under surveillance is the practice best known in totalitarian regimes."

I am a happy customer of Mullvad (there are other good VPN companies too but Mullvad is top notch). I use it to keep my family safe. The very idea that the UK government is harassing the good guys and demonizing internet security is mad. UK Labour party? I'm looking at you. You know me. You know how to talk to me. Get real about Internet policy.

The UK may be doing everything it can to shut down free expression and to monitor every second of our lives. But at least we have allies like @mullvadnet , literally out in the streets, fighting our corner. It's a strange world where a VPN company is fighting for the rights of citizens that are being attacked by their very own government, but it's the world we live in; and we're lucky to share it with Mullvad. "On the one hand, censorship and mass surveillance are escalating in the UK, through new laws, government pressure and proposed legislation. On the other hand, criticism of censorship and mass surveillance is being blocked through processes that are arbitrary and – to use their own words – unclear."

Our TV ads – under the concept And Then? – were banned in the UK, by Clearcast (an organization formed by the major TV channels in the UK which, on behalf of the authorities, must approve all TV advertising in the UK). Their arguments included: · “The overall concept lacks clarity.” · “It is unclear why certain examples are included, who the ‘speaker’ represents, and the role of individuals depicted in the car.” · “Several examples (e.g., paedophiles, rapists, murderers) risk causing serious offence and could imply that the VPN facilitates criminal activity.” · “Referencing topics such as: Paedophiles, Rapists, Murderers, Enemies of the state, Journalists, Refugees, Controversial opinions, People’s bedrooms, Police officers, Children’s headsets … is inappropriate and irrelevant to the average consumer’s experience with a VPN.” We think their arguments are nonsense. On the one hand, censorship and mass surveillance are escalating in the UK, through new laws, government pressure and proposed legislation. On the other hand, criticism of censorship and mass surveillance is being blocked through processes that are arbitrary and – to use their own words – unclear. When we tried to criticize the TV ads ban through outdoor ads, they were also banned by government bodies. We believe the situation is both Orwellian and Kafkaesque. You can watch all the banned ads and read more about escalating mass surveillance and censorship in the UK on our site: mullvad.net/and-then/uk And then? When our ads were banned on British TV, we took them to the streets instead and projected them onto walls in London.

🚨Someone just open sourced a computer that works when the entire internet goes down. It's called Project N.O.M.A.D. A self-contained offline survival server with AI, Wikipedia, maps, medical references, and full education courses. No internet. No cloud. No subscription. It just works. Here's what's packed inside: → A local AI assistant powered by Ollama (works fully offline) → All of Wikipedia, downloadable and searchable → Offline maps of any region you choose → Medical references and survival guides → Full Khan Academy courses with progress tracking → Encryption and data analysis tools via CyberChef → Document upload with semantic search (local RAG) Here's the wildest part: A solar panel, a battery, a mini PC, and a WiFi access point. That's it. That's your entire off-grid knowledge station. 15 to 65 watts of power. Works from a cabin, an RV, a sailboat, or a bunker. Companies sell "prepper drives" with static PDFs for $185. This gives you a full AI brain, an entire encyclopedia, and real courses for free. One command to install. 100% Open Source. Apache 2.0 License.

Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk say there is heavy interest from distributors for the Firefly animated series: Fillion said: "I don’t think we’re having any difficulty getting the appointment now. You know what I mean? Our foot in the door." Tudyk added: "Conversations are being had." Where do you want to watch it at?

Spain just fined the age verification company governments are forcing you to use €950,000 for GDPR violations. Biometric data retained too long, geolocation data kept for five years, fraud documents repurposed to train their AI. The infrastructure being built to "protect children" is already failing basic legal privacy requirements...

🧑‍💻‼️ IMPORTANT: New UK law could force age checks - potentially linked to Digital ID - across the internet It appears there’s a late change to the Children’s Wellbeing & Schools Bill currently going through Parliament that isn’t getting much public attention. 🔹 It adds a new power to UK data‑protection law (GDPR) that lets the Secretary of State make rules forcing online services to verify your age - not just rely on someone typing in a birthdate. 🔹 This could be used in future to require strong age‑assurance technology - potentially linked to things like digital ID systems - before anyone can use certain websites or apps. 🔹 This isn’t part of the normal regulator‑led Online Safety Act process - a Minister could decide the rules by regulation, not a regulator or Parliament directly. If you agree this is too broad, risky for privacy, or could eventually lead to a digital ID requirement to use the internet, take action: 📩 Use our tool to write to your MP and tell them your concerns: together.eaction.org.uk/8ZA
