It really is funny how pathetic the separatist movement really is. Some of the biggest influencers cant just do a quick Google search and realize that the forever canada petition asked for ID..

Forever Canadian got 456k signatures from Albertans who want to stay in Canada. The separatists got 301k from those who want to leave. Not only did Forever Canadian get WAY more signatures, they did it in 90 days. Danielle Smith changed the law to give the separatists 120 days.

This petition has never made any sense. It's playing with fire. I am a patriot who supports a strong Alberta within a united Canada. I have been outspoken about the destructive, divisive potential of a referendum on secession. So why in the world would federalists give separatists what they crave: a vote on seceding from Canada? There has never been a guarantee that the small minority of Alberta separatists could meet the thresholds to trigger a citizens' initiative. They've been banging on about separation for 45 years, but have never been able to organize a two car funeral. In their last effort, they got 1% of the vote in the Crowfoot by-election. So why would pro-unity Albertans meet the threshold for them? I appreciate that the people who signed this petition did so as an expression of their patriotism. They have been frustrated that secessionists have been trying to divide us, so wanted "to do something about it." Did the organizers tell signatories that the petition to initiate a referendum would not initiate a referendum? Did people sign this imagining that they were somehow reducing, rather than increasing, the risk of a deeply divisive vote on secession? Were they misled? Quite predictably, separatists are now applauding this "Canada forever" initiative petition. What a mess. We need to move beyond this pointless shouting match, much of it motivated by egos, and unite to build a stronger and more prosperous Alberta, and Canada. Last week's historic agreement with Ottawa, while neither perfect nor complete, is a positive signpost towards a brighter future. So too is the polling showing super majorities across Canada in favour of pipelines and responsible resource development. We Albertans are the most Canadian of provinces, thanks to decades of the highest levels interprovincial migration. We are big Canadians. Builders, entrepreneurs, innovators. Hundreds of thousands of Albertans have served in our national institutions, including in the defence of Canada. We are not narrow, perennially angry, inward-looking provincialists. We know that our horizons and opportunities would shrink, not expand, by becoming a landlocked state. We should lead, not leave. That means getting on with building, not stumbling into a pointless months long referendum that would, as in Quebec, permanently damage and divide us.
