It’s not lost on me that the attack on South Pars occurred on the eve of the anniversary of Iran’s oil nationalization—a significant assertion of sovereignty over natural resources. That assertion was met first with a CIA-backed coup against the democratically elected government that claimed that right; it then evolved into decades of US-led sanctions designed to cripple the ability to develop those resources; and it has now culminated in the US bombing the very infrastructure built despite those efforts to halt it. Equally important is that South Pars is home to Iran’s largest anti-imperialist labor union, defending workers’ rights while protecting them from imperialist appropriation. This attack, therefore, is also a direct assault on the union and its significant struggle for workers rights.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

Ever wonder how we measured electrical resistance before the invention of the modern multimeter? This 19th-century mechanical calculator was the gold standard for telegraph and early power line engineers. Known as a wire gauge resistance meter, it utilized the direct relationship between a wire's diameter and its ability to conduct current. The device features a logarithmic-style scale where each notch corresponds to a specific wire thickness. By finding the perfect fit, the user could instantly read the ohms per foot. It’s a brilliant example of how physical design can solve complex mathematical problems without needing a single battery.

Boeing gave a single Japanese company a $6 billion sole-source contract for the material that holds the 787 together. No other supplier on Earth can replace them. Toray Industries began in 1926 by spinning dissolved cellulose into textile fibers through thousands of microscopic nozzles. The physics of forcing polymer through a spinneret and solidifying the filament is identical whether the output is stockings or carbon fiber. The difference is tolerance. A defect in a stocking is invisible. A defect in a wing spar means the fuselage cracks. Toray spent 45 years closing that gap. Their T800S fiber is now the structural backbone of the 787. 35 tonnes of carbon fiber composite per plane. The same fiber Toray once spun for kimono now supports Boeing's commercial aircraft at 40,000 feet.

One thing I love about chennai is its public Transit. Came by SBC-MAS mail to Central at 4 am Got in a local at 4 20am , got down at Kodambakkam by 4 45am. Used @Chennai_One to track bus no. 37, perfect time , got in and reached home by 5 15am. The price being just 20rs total♥️

Men used to be gainfully employed to rejuvenate, rebuild and recommission London buses in fifteen working days, we had the skills and trades to do that. We made do, we mended. Things lasted, we supported ourselves. The country.. worked. Now, it can take fifteen weeks just to get a widget for that crappy Chinese EV that will last you four years if you’re lucky.

FISH CURRY & RICE: The fifth edition of the ‘Fish Curry & Rice’ book was formally released by retired Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, Justice Ferdino Rebello, and retired Bombay High Court judge Justice (Retd) Gautam Patel, along with editor of the book Claude Alvares, Norma Alvares @goafoundation, and others in Panaji on Saturday March 14,2026. Justice Ferdino Rebello stated that Fish Curry & Rice is not just a meal in Goa, but it is embedded with Goa’s ecological identity as it symbolizes its biodiversity right from hills to sea. He also stated that saving ecology is the fundamental duty of the citizen. Justice (Retd) Gautam Patel lamented about the state of Goa’s ecology and how there is now ‘othering of Goans.’ He also stated that the Section 39 (A) of the Town and Planning Act is “unconstitutional.” He suggested that the citizen should do more than sign online petitions and should be ready to come out and protest. He also made a strong case for citizens voting on any land-use zone change, rather than granting all powers to the Chief Town Planner. Effectively all growth in corn production over the last 20 years is for ethanol. ~20 million acres of conservation land, grassland, and soybean rotation was turned into corn monoculture that effectively strip mines the topsoil. Meanwhile it’s the most fertilizer dependent crop with only a 40% uptake rate. So ~1.7 million tons of nitrogen runoff flows into the Mississippi basin annually while also polluting their own water supplies. This runoff ends up expanding the Gulf deadzone, which is also where 40% of domestic seafood comes from. It’s hard to find a worse way to create fuel, with a wicked level of waste and downstream consequences.

45% of US corn production is for fuel ethanol and related. In other words almost half of the market is a form of ag subsidy with negative effects.
