Shar is the most dedicated DevRel leader I've ever had the privilege of working with, and he has truly cared for and supported the Java community since the Sun Microsystems days. You're not going to find someone more qualified. Hire this man.

@acoliver I remember in my UNIX days, people saying exactly the same thing about SunOS, or Irix, or whatever OS wasn’t their home OS. Or BSD vs. SVR4. I use both Windows and Macs, and macs have plenty of stupid stuff they do too.

So while I wouldn't bother with this I'd just hack around it... I can't imagine working on Windows. Its been decades and everytime I use it (to test if things work on Windows) I feel rage. It just has to do Windowsy things to me and that idiotic filesystem... I just can't anymore

📷 Jacobin JVM project just crossed over 5,000 commits! We're closing in on an alpha release this year. And testing? Well, our testing code base is 161% the size of our production code, with more than 2,500 tests...and many more to come. More here: binstock.blogspot.com/2026/03/jvm-...

Hi everyone! An ongoing reorganization at my current employer has prompted me to seek for a new role and would appreciate your support. I'm open to remote (anywhere) and hybrid roles in Switzerland. I have 25+ years experience as a software developer linkedin.com/posts/aalmiray…

@hhariri I believe many of them were epidemiologists before pivoting to AI. ;-)

I'm not on LinkedIn for the connections. I'm there for the thought leadership. It's amazing the number of people that have insight into the future and how AI will impact us. Truly mind-blowing. I really would like to be like them when I grow up. So much confidence.

@antonarhipov Goland is a great tool. And Junie is a great assistant. I rely with gratitude on both every day. (Well, nearly every day).

I'm not a Go developer, but it's fun to do something in another language for a change. So I've made a TUI calendar that you can sync with your Google Calendar. Of course, I have used LLMs for that along with JetBrains Junie, and spec-driven development. github.com/antonarhipov/g…

@hhariri @NotionHQ I left them too—after having high hopes. I found the mental model they use difficult to grok and apply. So i had info spread across odd looking documents that became difficult to manage. Notion could have greatly helped itself with good documentation and useful examples.

@pragdave The Redis source code is some of the most commented code I've seen. The clarity is really extraordinary.

I'm looking for examples of good source code. Stuff that's well written, or that uses interesting techniques, or that's clever without being obscure; the kind of code that you stop to read and they go "aahhh." Please drop suggestions and urls

@hhariri If history is any guide, the challenge will segue into something difficult to foresee now, and the satisfaction will come from doing that, rather than this.

I wonder, how we'll manage to feel sense of accomplishment when AI takes over everything. Pretty sure in the future there will be smokers with AI, and you'll get the best darn brisket with zero effort. But there's something so special about knowing it was your work that did it.

@hhariri They do seem to vary in quality. Ted might have diluted its brand with too many spin-offs.

@BeanSpilla123 @tank_sturnoss @OleTimeHardball the fact they don't let Pete Rose in is so fucking laughable; not letting in the guy that was not only a complete badass as catcher, but he was a coach at the same dam time and holds record for most hits; that's like not letting the guy with most yards in football hall of fame

The Jacobin JVM project just reached the 3.5 year milestone. So, like we do every six months, we just posted an update: what we've done, what we'll do next. Also numbers, like our test code is 2.07x the size of our production code. binstock.blogspot.com/2025/03/jacobi…

@headius Said in my grandpappy's voice: Well, son, the first thing you're gonna need to do is figure out what year it is. Cuz no amount of money is ever going to get you to 2024 FOSDEM.

First tough business decision of 2024: how to fund travel to Brussels for FOSDEM. 😟 I'm looking forward to speaking about deep invokedynamic internals in JRuby (with plenty of x86 and Arm ASM output) but cash is very limited at this stage. Help is needed! 🙏🥺
