@trentloos Showing livestock and youth sports have evolved into family hobbies. A lot of family vacations and time together get to happen with shows and travel sports competitions. I’m not one to judge how others chose to spend their time and money.

@trentloos I didn’t grow up showing animals, so I don’t know how it “used” to be. My boys have had pigs for 5 years. Theres not much connection between the “show” industry and the “production” industry, but why does there need to be?

Amen this thing is completely gone. It was all about teaching our kids work ethic. Now they are only present at the showring gate.

Somewhere along the way youth sports and livestock shows all lost the script and got ruined. Nothing teaches livestock husbandy like spending 3-5k on a hog just to be competitive at the county level.

I think we have it down to one grain bin to sweep myself…Fellas got lots of projects done this summer….working them in between lifting, sports, and FFA/4-H. Drives me crazy when people say young people don’t want to work…just need to give them an opportunity.

The boys had a great Iowa State Fair FFA Swine show last week! High placing commercial gilt…that ended up being the highest placing gilt on the Blue and Gold Gilt Sale…the fellas were pretty excited…now on to football practice tomorrow 😂

The impact Emmalee had hitting the ball a handful of feet from home is remarkable. Of course there’s also her base running, her throwing, and idk if I’ve seen a catcher make as many diving catches as her.
