@smriiis_reading A few fiction books a month is only like 8 hours a month, so 30 books a year is easy. But the people who are ALWAYS consuming something, whether tv, book, music, audiobook, podcast, whatever... are they never just existing and thinking and enjoying the world?

@smriiis_reading There used to be a guy on a radio show I'd occasionally listen to on my way to work (I usually drive in silence) and he was under 30 and knew every tv show, movie, internet reference, band, video game, board game… Where is the time for this? Do people never just sit and be?

“can we normalize not reading 30+ books a year” YES because reading is not a competition. but acting like reading 30 books a year is physically impossible is insane that’s literally 2-3 books a month. people binge 9 seasons of shows in a week but suddenly books are impossible?

@amiasmatics Ugh the feeling of air blowing on you is awful. Obviously they should have spoken to someone. They sell draft diverters that magnetically stick to the vent and send the air the other way. Could be a good solution.

BREAKING: Adam Hoffman has been released from jail for "good behavior." Hoffman is the 49-year-old Waco, TX attorney who faced life without parole for repeatedly raping a young boy, until Texas AG Ken Paxton offered him 1 day in jail and no need to register as a sex offender. A judge increased his sentence to a whopping 60 days. He got out in 30 days. This is MAGA's vision for the USA. Full story: letsaddresstexas.substack.com/p/ken-paxtons-…

@SarahFaith74 @JTAlexander Your behavior is bizarre because other people have real obligations and diverse interests, not because you're somehow some special little snowflake who is such a special reader. And you read romance, to boot.

@SarahFaith74 @JTAlexander I can read a book in a couple hours. I also have a job that I spend all day working face-to-face with people or engaging my brain in my work. Most people aren't sitting on their asses at home all day like you, and most people have other interests that require engagement.

A funny story about how I accidentally ended my wife’s interest in BookTube. There was this girl she was watching that claimed to read 200-300 books a year. One of the books that came up in her list, somehow, was G.K. Chesterton. In her review, this girl said “It was good, I think, but I just couldn’t understand it.” I told my wife two things: (1) There is not one human that actually reads 300 books a year; and, (2) If anyone could read that much, they’d have no problem understanding Chesterton. I told her I bet that she just constantly had an audiobook on literally all the time playing at 2x speed like background noise. Within a week, my wife showed me a new video of this girl admitting that my prediction was dead accurate.

@JTAlexander I've seen 700+. They claim they're always reading multiple books and always listening to an audiobook. And it's always a "single mom working full time" going "if you're a slow reader, just say so." NO. NO ONE IS READING 2 BOOKS EVERY DAY ALL YEAR UNLESS IT'S CLIFFORD

Notice the abdication of male responsibility here? In the scenarios described, male victims are traumatized by “lying b!tches.” The language is vituperative, misogynistic, and directly accusatory. Female victims, on the other hand, are “victims of sexual assault.” There’s no blame assigned there. Sexual assault is cast almost as a force of nature, a misfortune that just kind of happens to women, with no human intervention. Men - who perpetrate the overwhelming majority of sexual violence - are never mentioned, much less with the same venom OP reserves for women. I wish I could say that I find this odd in a former detective, who would have seen exponentially more rapes than false allegations. Unfortunately, a lot of male detectives start from the assumption that any woman who reports a rape is automatically lying unless she had nine kinds of crap beaten out of her, and the fact that most rapes don’t include that level of violence only seems to validate their assumption that most victims are liars. This attitude goes a long way towards explaining why only 2% of rape allegations lead to a felony conviction.

Men see their sacrificial mothers as "standards" & women see their sacrificial mothers as "trauma". And that's where the difference lies.

@Osi_Suave You have cats? First priority is getting the cats put away and they don't want to go. Second, you ever have Corelle dishware and ceramic tile flooring? You'll be finding tiny slivers of glass for months.

I broke a mug yesterday in my kitchen and I just swept it up and kept it moving. And I wonder why our parents made so much fuss about breaking things when we were growing up.
