Per @GeoffGrammer, New Mexico and New Mexico State will remain at once a year in men’s basketball for at least the next two seasons. 2026 in Albuquerque and 2027 in Las Cruces.
Additionally, NMSU is working on playing UTEP twice in non-conference play for basketball after it joins the Mountain West. This may also be played just once per season now, though.
While nothing has been finalized yet, NMSU AD Joe Fields tells me that he wants to play the Lobos and Miners “as frequently as possible across all sports.”
“These are meaningful rivalries that deserve to be played and prioritized regularly.”
