Answer: Motion Artifact This a sagittal slice of a CT scout film. The patient was lying supine (on their back) and unexpectedly sat up during image acquisition. It’s quite possible he or she suddenly became claustrophobic, or perhaps was simply caught mid-sneeze. Motion artifact is one of the most common CT or MRI imaging artifacts that exist. In extreme cases, with very high velocity movement, it can result in severe image distortion and “ghosting”—no pun intended—as seen here. The impressive motion artifact of the skull in this case gives the false impression that the patient’s cranium has been detached from their face. #FOAMed

🧵I'll be covering updates on the fire in Nova Scotia, Canada that originated in the Westwood Hills subdivision of Tantallon throughout the night. Evacuations are in place for several neighborhoods (see map from CTV). Multiple structures destroyed.

@JesAndLil @SDCountyFires All they were able to say was that it was just a garage on fire and it was put out. No info on how much damage to that building, but it was just the garage not the house. No other reports of buildings there that they could tell

Tantallon Fire - Nova Scotia Active woods burning near Grant Line Road & Longwood Lane 200 feet from any structure. Difficult access. Also a garage fire in the 20 block of Kimara Drive. Resources working to knock fire down.

Tantallon: crews are continuing to focus again on multiple houses on fire in the Westwood area. Flames are as high as 100' in some areas. RCMP are also reporting the fire has jumped Hammonds Plains Rd again near Pine Tree.

Reason #27 for #lifeinscience: Expert advice. The world needs experts to help in emergencies (ie COVID) & to guide policies. There is a need for people to act and communicate good science. Lack of trust in science is a big problem, but we are the ones who can fix it
