@pocketsuke @Pirat_Nation Weird Al gets millions of listens on Spotify every year, said the royalty checks he gets from them for an entire year of listens can barely buy a sandwich. So your "up and coming artists" are making pennies from Spotify, if they're lucky.

Spotify music library scraped by pirate activist group and made available as a torrent. Includes 86M audio files, now circulating in bulk torrents totaling ~300 terabytes. Spotify is "actively investigating the incident."

@pocketsuke @Pirat_Nation Small artists get laughably tiny payouts from Spotify ($0,003 - $0,005 per stream). You can't support them by streaming. If you want to actually support an artist — buy the merch, go to the shows, buy releases on Bandcamp or donate. Donating $10 is equivalent to 2-3k streams.

@andski @Pirat_Nation Any income source for smaller musicians, including Spotify, that go missing can literally end someones career before its even been given the chance to start. Bandcamp is excelent, but in terms of wider outreach, sadly streaming platforms are king :(

@pocketsuke @Pirat_Nation Small artists with dedicated passionate communities thrive on Bandcamp every Friday. IYKYK. Some of the songs aren’t even on Spotify for this reason
