Angela Rayner’s intervention today and her willingness to stand in a contest comes after her supporters were shocked by briefing against her by colleagues They were particularly appalled that supporters of Wes Streeting briefed the media that she was a ‘tax-dodger’ only a few weeks ago There is also some frustration at the Miliband-Burnham camp suggesting she couldn’t be PM because of her personal life Today she denies she has a deal with the Burnham campaign And a person close to her says she’d run if required in any contest now to defeat Streeting and, potentially, Miliband So as things stand the soft-left appears split on strategy, and if there’s a contest with Streeting then Labour will descend into open factional war

its obvious that the plan for a while was to sideline Burnham and watch Labour's soft left challenge crumble, which isn't helped by their lack of talent and awful political instincts

funnily enough the seat that Corbyn won in both elections is pretty proportionate to his vote shares in 2017 & 2019 (only over or underrepresented by 1-2% each time). it's just Tories and/or regional parties that made it non-representative

the weakness of Starmer's historic landslide is remarkable. his vote % share was only 1.5% higher than Corbyn in 2019, and (a quick look at Wiki) Starmer somehow had lower numbers in the total popular vote than 2019 Corbyn

One very under-discussed area in all the leadership speculation is *policy* - what Keir Starmer's should be, and also what his potential successors might do.
